I wonder what will happen if the bill gets passed with abortion coverage? Will the bishops forbid us from working at non-Catholic hospitals? I pray they will at least demand prayer and penance.

There is no way that any healthcare bill out of this administration will not include free abortion, on demand, for everyone. President Obama made it very clear during his campaign that he was pro-abortion all the way.

That’s a good question. Unless you are a service provider of abortion, there is no need for that prohibition. The Church will continue to forbid that Catholic healthcare providers perform or directly participatein abortion or support abortion. But it will not ask anyone to give up is livelihood for working in hosptital that provides abortion as long as one is not directly involved. That would not be fair to the individual and his family either. The Church will not try to cure one evil by commiting another evil.

hmmm…Our Parish Priest’s Nephew’s Wife works at Planned Parenthood. She’s not directly involved, she’s does the accounting (bookkeeping) I think.That’s a good question. He told his nephew and her that she cannot work there, being that she’s Catholic.
She replied they don’t do abortions there.
Regardless…so you’re thinking it would be okay for her to work at Planned Parenthood, as long as she’s not directly involved with abortion? I mean, besides birth control—they also do pap smears and exams (which are allowed by the Church <not the birth control part, the exams>)…

Wait a minute. I think we’re getting confused here. My response was to the question in post #2. That was a question about a non-Catholic Hospital.
Planned Parenthood is not a hospital. Their mission statement itself is in conflict with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Ultimately, their goal is to reduce the number of pregnancies that couples have. That is not the ultimate goal of a hospital. See the difference?
But if it makes your family feel more comfortable, get a second opinion from another priest or theologian. You can also get an answer from your diocesan Respect Life Office or from Priests for Life website. But you must explain that this is not a hospital, but part of the Planned Parenthood Network, because they are a network.
