I don’t believe change is only from the top down. If there are zero faithful Catholics left at Notre Dame, but its next president enforces Ex Corde, who’s going to be there to support him? He’d be stymied at every turn by a hostile environment. If we keep retreating in this spiritual war that’s going on, we’re not spreading the Good News, we’re keeping it to ourselves. 😦

I wonder if there can be a significant Catholic faithful if the clergy is unfaithful to the teachings of the Church. ND is the latest example, but there are many.

I have sat in Mass wondering if my pastor is even Catholic. I have read the writings of my bishop and have had the same thoughts. As an example, I will never forget going to vigil Mass one Saturday when we were treated to a presentation created by a nationally-known organization that strongly endorses pro-choice. To this day, I feel guilty that I did not walk out.

Our diocese said nothing about FOCA or fetal stem cell research until well after the last election, even though the winner said the first legislation he wanted to sign was FOCA. Now, they are issuing statements asking people to write their representatives. The horse is out of the barn and now we react?

I believe that the bishops should be very vocal telling NOT to send their Catholic children to ND. The bishops should tell the faithful Catholics to send their children to FAITHFUL Catholic Universities.
In fact, they have given a list of “faithful” Catholic Colleges on EWTN. Don’t hold me to this, but I heard it on either Raymond Arroyo or Life on the Rock. (or maybe both) Sadly there were only a handful mentioned.

No. You are looking at this as though Notre Dame is rotten to the core, and it’s not…Father Jenkins is not representative of the entire university.
But in this case, he is. He accomplished the devil’s work like few before him, selling out Our Lady’s namesake for thirty pieces of prestige. It has been said there is no such thing as bad publicity. I fear this is a naive notion. Notre Dame’s secularization has gained ground and hopefully faithful Catholics will find elsewhere to place their money where the administration would never permit such a travesty. May God chastise this school until she not only changes out this man, but also repents of compromise with the world.
Revelation 3:15 "I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. (16) So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. (17) For you say, ‘I am rich and affluent and have no need of anything,’ and yet do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. (18) advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich, and white garments to put on so that your shameful nakedness may not be exposed, and buy ointment to smear on your eyes so that you may see. (19) Those whom I love, I reprove and chastise. Be earnest, therefore, and repent.
