The nation’s Roman Catholic bishops have chosen a Texas cardinal as their new top leader.
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston was elected Tuesday as president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Among his duties will be guiding the bishops’ relationship with President-elect Donald Trump.
Yeah! Great and humble man. My last story was when he was at our school and September. His assistant kept trying to get him out to the next thing on the schedule. He stayed until he could meet and shake hands with every child.

This is reassuring to say the least. What a delightful selection our Bishops have made.

This was really kind of automatic. They rarely don’t confirm the sitting VP. What I find more interesting is the choice of new VP, who will likely be the president in 3 years. He’s Opus Dei. Some Catholics won’t like that.

I like that choice as well! Archbishop Gomez still has a place in the heart of Texas Catholics.

I am delighted for the election of Archbishop Gomez. He is a powerful choice, being one who was not born where he subsequently migrated.

Good to see our Bishop Robert Barron on the Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis, and of course our Archbishop Gomez as USCCB vice-president. 👍

He also accepts Pope Francis’ call to be a shepherd who “smells like his sheep.” My friends from his diocese say that he has accepted invitations to meet informally for lunch and interact directly with the young adults in his diocese. It’s not my place to approve/disapprove of the Bishops’ choice, but I admit I smiled when I saw his name.

Thanks for the updates,Mr Newton.
I remember when he was made Cardinal, and how excited people in my parish then were.
He presided Confirmation for two of our children.
