I wrote both of my state senators today and have signed several petitions on the subject. All of us should do the same. If enough people raise their voices, it can be changed. I am, as others have mentioned, glad to see our Bishops standing up. Too many of them have made their bed with the Democratic party for decades now in an attempt to promote social justice, albeit in violation of Church teaching on Subsidiarity, and we are reaping what we/they have sewn.

Hopefully this issue can serve as a clarion call for our bishops, priests, religious, and faithful to stand up and start fighting for the faith and to teach it, even on social issues, with clarity.

Peace,

Has there ever been a poll done of Catholics who try their best to follow Church teaching?

Obama has made this announcement in an election year because he has been reassured by certain Catholics that only a minority of Catholics would oppose this.

Are we really that small of a minority?

Has anyone seen any polls?
I would be interested in this as well. Although, I’m not sure I have the courage to look at the results.

A couple of days ago, one of my relatives said she would vote for Obama even though his economic policies are a disaster … BECAUSE she is such a big supporter of “a woman’s right to choose”.

That’s how strong the “abortion lobby” is.

And with all due respect, our bishops are too little and too late.

Very few bishops picket [or have picketed] abortion mills.

This coming election in November 2012 is going to be a really big deal.

I only hope and pray that our voters have not been so propagandized that they recognize the importance of voting the Obama administration out of office. AND holding his replacement’s feet to the fire to reverse the terrible terrible laws and bureaucratic rules that have been imposed on this country.
Yes, I’ve heard the same. To some, the right to kill unborn children has become the most cherished right of all. It trumps everything else. And there is no doubt that this administration will not dare to go against this constitutency. It is married to Planned Parenthood.

Unfortunately, they have no desire to. They agree completely with abortion on demand.

I have sent my letters- Senator Toomey sent me a nice and supportive response. He also served us coffee and hot cocoa at the end of the March with the rest of the Pennsylvania delegation so here we are blessed with good respresentation:) It is really up to us folks, the faithful. I am a convert, will be in full Communion at Easter vigil on April 7th. I come from what is essentially a pro choice church and certainly one that funds reproductive “care” (The United Methodist Church). But even our liberal Christian friends and non Christian friends can understand the religious liberty issues- we need to frame it that way to EVERYONE we know, pro choice, pro life, tea party, liberals or whoever. Now is not the time to pick and choose who hears this message- tell everyone. Any government that can do this can do anything and that is the message that needs to get out. Can you tell I’m passionate, I really feel God called me to be Catholic for a reason!

Until the Whole World Hears,

Val

Where are the other bishops?

Bishops who have denounced the HHS mandate:
There many be more Bishops that have denounced it, these are the Bishops I have found.

Cardinal Wuerl, and Cardinal-elect Dolon have also denounced the mandate.

Many Bishops are saying take action - tell Congress to support conscience protections, especially Democrats because they currently make up the majority of the Senate, and the Respect For Rights of Conscience Act could pass in the Republican House and then get blocked in the Senate, so lobby Democrats as well as Republicans.

Back before I knew National -]Catholic/-] Reporter was extremely liberal, I saw a study that they had done that said about 85% of Republicans and Democrats (each) didn’t value the authority of the Vatican.

I also saw a statistic this past week that 95% of Catholics either use artificial contraceptives or believe they are ok to use. I wonder if this can tie in with not many paying any heed to the Vatican?

Probably. 😦

Agreed. Where are the bishops elsewhere? How many bishops are there, hundreds? Good for those bishops who did the right thing, but its too little too late. Where were they in 2008?

Although there is no statement on the web site of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South-Bend, I personally heard Bishop Kevin Rhoades denounce the proposed regulation in October at our annual Red Mass for lawyers and politicians. He called the proposed exemptions so narrow as to be meaningless. It was the most forceful homily I have heard from him in the two years he has been our bishop.

Praise God that Bishop Zubik has had the courage to push back against the bigoted Dictator’s regime. I hope that Catholics and other Christians everywhere have the fortitude to stand with the Bishop. 🙂 Rob

I would not be so hasty to believe this. it could very well be as ridiculous as Kinsey’s report on Human Sexuality. That was a farce as well.

Bishop Zubik was out of line by using that line. It may be used by others as a slogan when they disagree with catholic teaching.

Well yes, any statistic you have to take with a grain of salt. I do know that the number is high among Catholics who use artificial birth control. It might not be 95% but it is commonly used.
