LGBTQ groups at Georgetown University, PRIDE and Queer People of Color, had officially complained that the Catholic group. Love Saxa, “fostered “hatred” and “intolerance” by publicly promoting a view of marriage as existing only between one man and one woman.” (“The Hoya,” Georgetown University newspaper) Georgetown University is widely considered a leading U.S. Catholic University. The complaint was taken up for consideration, though later rejected.

Those students who expected Catholicism=atheism don’t exactly seem like they’re prepared for university.

“Publicly promoting a view of marriage as existing only between one man and one woman.”

That’s just straightforward Catholic doctrine and Catholic teaching, which ought to be taught and promoted on a Catholic campus.

Heck, it’s not just Catholic doctrine. For most of history, it was the common teaching of all Christianity and most of western civilization. It’s only in the last few decades that unreality has come to be accepted as normal.

This sort of protest was inevitable; that it appeared at Georgetown is unremarkable. That G’town is still considered a Catholic university is more remarkable.

Actually, I think this is a good thing. There was always going to be a clash between Catholic doctrine and the LGBT community, and the sooner that confrontation enters the court system to better the church’s chances are of surviving it.

Since “hate speech” is pretty much whatever a court says it is, it is better to have this confrontation now rather than later.
