Thousands of our Black brothers and sisters have overcome the myths and accusations against the church, and have become members even at great sacrifice and sometimes persecution, from their own families and friends. I believe it is because they looked below the surface and beyond the lies and half truths, that are spread by anti-mormons, and discovered the truth. I admire their courage. I am curious to know what you all think about that, and how anybody can believe that we are any more or less racist than any other church.

You do have truth in what you posted. The lds were by and large much less racist than other christian brothers and sisters. All people were allowed to join the lds faith and share the chapel and meetings together with other races. There was no segregation. And Joseph Smith ran as a abolitionist for president.

The sticking point with critics is the priesthood and of course some misunderstand this to be not allowing africans to become members of the lds church which would be false. All races were allowed to join and share in christian brotherhood and sisterhood the fellowship of god.

Yeah but back in the day blacks were allowed to ride the bus but they had to set in the back. It did not make it right and your church did somthing the same.

I figure there are two LDS churches: the proto-Nazi one epitomized by Brigham Young, and the one which reads the BOM as an allegory on the consequences of racism.

Perhaps they need to work on excommunicating their proto-Nazis, rather than harrassing people who believe that the LDS church can change, if it honestly looks at its :coffeeread: history.

Thanks for your opinions, anyway. :twocents:

If you will listen to the presentation that I have posted several times, you may just learn the historical situation of the time:

And of course this was during the days when whites were religious and went to church regularly in the south. Not much complaints from the white christians about the situation. But in Utah, all could ride in the front seats of the bus. 🙂

And sit in the front pews. 🙂

But not hold the Mormon “priesthood”. They sat in the pews to be condescended to by their white and delightsome “superiors” who were allegedly more spiritually evolved and free from any curse.

The reality is that BY was a racist. Yes, it may have been a by-product of his times and upbringing, but somehow God never changed his heart. Yes, other denominations were segregated as well. IN fact, even today, churches are the last bastion of segregation visible in America.

Please look and ask yourself which Churches were not segregated in America prior to the 1960s. To my knowledge, there was only one that nationwide could claim minority members…

the amount of “prophecy” and “doctrine” on this subject makes it pretty hard to sweep under the rug. for years LDS apostles and prophets told us that Blacks were descendants of Cain and thus cursed. to reconcile this with the articles of faith (only punished for your own sins) they told us that their performance in the pre-existence merited them coming to earth as blacks. they also told us that if they were faithful LDS and obeyed to the best of their ability then they could go to the celestial kingdom…as servants.

none of these teachings has ever been repudiated by LDs leadership. the OD doesn’t even claim revelation. it just says spencer kimball prayed with the apostles about it and decided the day had come to give all worthy men the priesthood. that’s it.

Wow all these arguments against Black people joining the church, yet thousands are. Why is that?

Your missing the point. If you cannot figure what we are saying then you truly are brain washed so no I am not going to explain it to you.

And many, many more are becoming Muslim. DOes that prove anything? I could say that the LDS is now making an effort to reach to a population that in the past they either ignored or called unworthy and cursed.

They all, hear what you hear, see what you see, and yet they still join, why is that?

Self-hatred? Otherwise, why would they buy into a religion that says God made them black because their ancestors displeased Him?

Why don’t you say what your saying, so I don’t have to figure it out?
