Black people loot, white people find

The Associated Press caption accompanying the image with a black person says he’s just finished “looting” a grocery store. The AFP/Getty Images caption describes lighter skinned people “finding” bread and soda from a grocery store. No stores are open to sell these goods.

New Orleans, Sept. 1, 2005 - It’s criminal. From what you’re hearing, the people trapped in New Orleans are nothing but looters. We’re told we should be more “neighborly.” But nobody talked about being neighborly until after the people who could afford to leave … left

There are gangs of white vigilantes near here riding around in pickup trucks, all of them armed, and any young Black they see who they figure doesn’t belong in their community, they shoot him.

But nobody cares. They’re just lawless looters … dangerous

The hurricane hit at the end of the month, the time when poor people are most vulnerable. Food stamps don’t buy enough but for about three weeks of the month, and by the end of the month everyone runs out. Now they have no way to get their food stamps or any money, so they just have to take what they can to survive.

Every day countless volunteers are trying to help, but they’re turned back. Almost all the rescue that’s been done has been done by volunteers anyway.

here is the real truth, they were watching our in need of help Americans die and suffer because they are afraid of us African Americans and other poor races & it make me mad because these scum just are sitting around while people die and it is sick.

they can’t even take care of our affairs here in America, how are they going to help other country’s when this place is a hell hole. It made me sick to see Veterans dying and they fault for this country like my dad, & my step brother is now fighting in Iraq & even he called me & said that he feels ashamed & appalled at what he has saw this week from our fake country
 
I have heard a lot of news reporting about looters. What I have seen is one film clip, run over and over for days, of three people leaving a store, two are women carrying diapers and water bottles, one is a man without a shirt carrying something I can’t identify, might be a TV. I would require a lot more evidence than this to make wholesale condemnations of looters. Taking diapers, food, water etc. in this circumstance is not looting in my eyes, it is simple justice.

“Looting” food and necessities of life would not be wrong in the circumstances. Even Catholic teaching recognizes that.

But, once you get past water and food and toilet paper and diapers…
 
I’m trying to understand your disdain for our country you describe as a fake, hell-hole. I would like to see what your brave father and step-brother, valiantly fighting for our nation in some of the most fearful and inhospitable places on Earth would have to say about your remarks. I can assure you that they wouldn’t be doing, what they are so honorably doing, for a fake, hell-hole. Your unselfish and brave father and step-brother would do well by giving you a little lesson on what a real hell-hole is. They know what you may never know. All of us are blessed to live in such a wonderful nation. I am very proud of our service men and women, many of whom give their all (life).

If you live in the area affected by the most devestating storm in our nation’s history, my prayers are with you. There is an entire nation mobilizing vast resources to help you. Billions upon billions of dollars, thousands of tons of material are being delivered everyday for you. Hundreds of flight ops are conducted every day on overloaded, abused aircraft by weary flight crews who actually fear bullets hitting the aircraft, not from a foreign enemy, but Americans.

Please remember why the thousands of volunteeers have been ‘turned away’. It is fear for their own lives from the very people the want so much to help. You cannot deny the bands of raping, murderous gangstas who plunder ambulances and hospitals. I’m not going to hide my anger with the behavior of those individuals. I would be ashamed, if behavior like that, broke out in my town.

If you’re in those ravaged areas, I can partially understand the hate and rage you feel for your country and in particular, whites. Trust me, I know frustration, hunger and fear will make one say almost anything. So regardless of what you may think of our great land, and me, an anonymous white guy, I will pray for you, and everyone suffering from the devestation of Katrina. I will open my checkbook and give my time bringing relief supplies, even if under fire. So, dear while, do your best to hang in there and rest assured that help is on the way. But, dear while, please do your best to love your country and forgive us our trespasses AS we forgive those who trespass against us.
 
I guess there is a difference between those who took food, diapers, and so on and those who took guns and shot at first responders. It was the shooting of first responders which – among other causes – held up aid getting to those in need.

Nice try at a strawman.
