well baptist churches aren’t “Christ’s” Church, they are man made (and this is just another case proving the Catholic Claim)
Before we make too many hasty comments about what proves what claim, let us recall that the Roman Catholic church went through it’s own segregationist era. That includes turning away people for not being from the right ethnic group.

I am a much older man now, but I can still recall the story of my grandfather during the great depression of 1929 - 1930 et al. He was a proud man and a hard independent worker and would do anything to avoid asking for help, but times were so desperate and he had young children, he swallowed his pride went to the local Catholic parish for help from their food pantry. He was a Roman Catholic and this was the local parish (albeit ‘Polish’). They turned him away, and told him to go to the ‘French’ parish way across town.

God helps those who help their own, I guess.

All over the USA south Roman Catholic parishes were segregated, I don’t know when that stopped. Something similar happened in the north, but unofficially. As a neighborhood would change and some blacks began attending Mass many whites would stop going to their own parish and start attending the one in the neighborhood next over.

I can still remember the ruckus when the Pope sent bishop John (later Cardinal) Cody to Chicago [memory eternal!]. He was the talk in every tavern, a much reviled man. His reputation preceded him from his posting in St Louis. His crime was wanting to integrate the parishes. He fought the ‘white flight’. He demanded that people who lived within parish bounds did not get married or send their children to Catholic schools in a different parish, well within his right as bishop to do so, but he was hated for it.

So let’s not get too proud to fit in our own britches.

This was sadly very common in many communities. Not too far from where I live in rural Nebraska there is a town of 600, that has two catholic churches. One was for the Czechs, and one was for the Germans and it used to be that the groups didn’t really mix and apparently the rival priests would say that people would go to hell for attending the other church. Even to this day the churches though they share a pastor, are still very much separate and now its based more on family than ethnic group.

I grew up in a Baptist Church in Brooklyn. I have no idea which convention it was a part of because that issue wasn’t relevant to my life. I moved on to a non-denominational church when I was about 21.

However, my congregation was 100% black, so all I saw were black people every time I went to Church. I didn’t know anything about Baptists not wanting black people.

Bu the way, black people experience racism in all sorts of environments. It’s something you learn to deal with.

As a black Catholic in a traditional Latin mass community, I am in a minority because most NYC Christians are Protestant. This means sometimes I hear things said by well-meaning people that just make me raise my eyebrows.

As long as it is not as overt as what happened in that church, you smile to yourself, shake your head and move on. Not every comment is worth a verbal argument.

As a side question, Islam does not want black people?
Apparently, Islam in the U.S. does want blacks, but I don’t understand why blacks would be attarcted to Islam considering they were involved in the African slave trade for a thousand years. Why embrace a religion that enslaved you? (Not you but universal you).

Mormons did not allow blacks 35 plus years ago but now it has a great following in Africa.
Before, it would have nothing to do with blacks.

It is apparent that the congregation is in control and not the minister. How is one to preach love and tolerance when the people you are bringing the Word to can fire you?
Baptist churches are congregation run, so no, the pastor is not in control. Unless he has the type of personality that TAKES control. Those wind up in cultic situations, and I have seen that too. Most churches of this type have “someone” who runs the show, usually based on how much they give to the church. They can make life a living hell for any pastor that challenges them. I have rarely seen it work in harmony. Either the pastor is in control or someone else will be.
If this church is in a small town, that actually makes it far worse.
There is one town in Pennsylvania, known at least in the past as a hotspot for the KKK. Many Klan sympathizers were in leadership roles in a certain church. I knew one of the deacons of that church who was a “KlanSymp” who homeschooled his kids and was an over the top fundamentalist. His kids are grown now and we bumped into the oldest daughter not too long ago. She’s married now with a child.
To a black man.
Tell me God doesn’t have a sense of humor.😉

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. l By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them.
(Matt 7:15-23)
A wrong religion is a WRONG religion. It does not matter if you worship Jesus but rejecting his truth. It is just a trick by Satan, to not be too obvious.

Yes, Muslims founded the African slave trade routes, moving East Africans to the West Coast of Africa to be picked up by Europeans.

Did a quick Google search.
Yep, small town (under 6000), a looooooooong history with the Ku Klux Klan and other hate groups. I wonder why they even allowed the couple to attend thier church.
I guess it was okay for them to warm a pew, but get married?
Now you’re gettin’ uppity!!

Who are they to Ban Marriage… ?. Who are they to divide the humanity?. All human beings are one. In christianity there is no black , white , indian or asians … All are one in christ… All have only one Soul… All recieves same baptism and sacraments…

I am sure these deeds are not from Holy Spirit…

We christians should aware about those groups who uses these situations for their profit. Muslims says christianity is a white religion so black christians should convert to Islam for their freedom ( You can see real picture if you visit one arab muslim country , how white arabs treats black arab muslims)… Another group earn gains is eastern spirituality groups they consider white people as divine race and they creates a false thought in the mind that they are superior to others. Last year I saw a video (in youtube/i think so) , a white person guided by facist ideolgies showering hatred towards christianity…He is telling that christianity is an insult to white people.

What is reality?.. Identify those who makes profit from our lack of unity. In christianity no race is superior to others. All are one in christ… I wonder how these ideologies find a place among christians. As far as best of my knowledge , it happens only among protestants…

Was the Czech parish called St Procopius?

Just wondering …

Indeed. As a Protestant southerner I tire of the framing of these issues as some deficiency in the southern people or in this case in Protestantism. Man in all localities and churches sins. Just because some sins are more or less common at different times and places doesn’t make those who abstain from them in this day or that place better people.

The War of Northern Aggression isn’t over yet in some places in the south. Our parish has all races in it. All are welcomed. The most colorful family that attends each Sunday is a black family from Nigeria when they wear their native dress. We are all Christians first.

No, I don’t want to give away the name of the parishes or even the town. I will just say it’s in northeast nebraska, and as I said they have stubbornly held on to two churches even though they are in a town of 600 and there are literally 4 other catholic churches within 10 miles.

So why would American blacks be attracted to a religion that enslaved them and still practices slavery? 🤷

Looks like that Baptist church is true to it’s roots. After all the american Baptist Church supported slavery.

A response to April…“I wonder how many Catholic members of this forum would be sending emails monday morning to their Bishop if they had listened to a sermon sunday morning on contraception.” In the 90s at my church the priest at that time gave one of the best homilies I have heard - he talked about contraception, sex before marriage, etc. and I saw a lady get up and walk out so the Archbishop knew about the homily before Mass was over. He was called in and when he told the Archbishop what he said in his homily of course the Archbishop had to take his side. There was also a doctor and his family there and he said he almost walked out - he had 2 daughters getting close to their teenage years and he thought they need to hear this so they stayed. We have a very large file at the Archdiocese considering how small we are.

Sadly because so many of them are misinformed. Additionally, they have such a history of being treated shabbily in this nation (e.g., the original news story) that many of them are desperately seeking someone to embrace them and give them a feeling of self worth. The Nation of Islam does both. Ironically, true Islam considers them heretics and a cult.

Not sure how many know this, but Crystal Springs is only a half hour drive from Jackson Ms, where Emmett Till was murdered.
The hate-filled culture down there has never changed.
