Former prime minister Tony Blair has launched a faith foundation to tackle global poverty, challenge conflict and unite the world’s religions.
Mr Blair, who is a Roman Catholic, unveiled the foundation in New York.

The Tony Blair Faith Foundation has three aims: to promote faith as a force for good, improve awareness between religions and tackle poverty and war.
Mr Blair said there was “nothing more important” than creating understanding between different faiths and cultures. Before the official launch at the headquarters of media group Time Warner, he said: "Religious faith will be of the same significance to the 21st Century as political ideology was to the 20th Century.

What’s all this about? Good thing, or bad thing? Do Catholics need to reach out to other faiths? Are any other faiths reaching out to us? Just how Catholic is TB when he is associated with stuff like this dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1020662/Cherie-I-use-contraception-AND-good-Catholic-girl.html does it do Catholicism good or ill?

Never mind contraception, it’s his support of abortion rights that’s the problem! It’s one thing to fail to understand church teaching on contraception - it doesn’t make a lot of sense in strictrly human terms, and I think you have to come along fairly far in your understanding of our faith to be willing to accept it. I can forgive him (and his wife) for that quite easily. But to be as supportive of abortion as he has been, and then turn around to try to start a humanitarian type foundation, I have no respect for that. How can you respect the judgment of anyone who can’t see the light on the morality of killing little babies? I know he means well, but right now I think there are far better causes to support than the Blair foundation.

I really like Tony Blair, and welcome his entry into the Catholic faith. But he has a way to go before I see him as leader in the faith and values arena. He is a great guy with keen insight into many other areas, but I hope and pray he soon sees the light on sexual morality issues. I read an article some time ago that he kept a copy of Humane Vitae on the bookshelf behind his desk. I got the impression that he had actually been reading it. Hope that it eventually makes more of an impression.

I am extremely concerned that a man as visible and “famous” as Tony Blair, who is now a Catholic, may be supporting publicly anything that is in opposition to Church teaching. 😦 While his intentions may be all well and good, it causes tremendous scandal for the Church.

I am certain the Catholic Church will be watching because she also realizes the former Prime Minister’s role in Catholic life as well as members of his family. If his actions consistently follow his stated mission then one can pray that some good fruit will appear. As far as members of his family, what effect their statements will have is unclear. I am confident that he is aware of their public image.

God bless,
Ed

I agree it causes scandal, but I am also intrigued by the possibility of watching Mr. Blair’s public transformation into a more devout, faithful and orthodox Catholic.

The thing for me is that he chooses to be open and vocal about his faith now, but his poltical position is well known to have caused huge problems for the Church. Also his wofe’s enormously vocal condemnation of Catholic virtues casts massive questions over the value of his (name removed by moderator)ut IMO. What message is being sent out? Real Catholics, clever Catholics don’t subscribe to all Catholic teaching? We know what lies down that slippery slope don’t we?

Cherie’s book is positively sleasy in parts and she makes no secret of things like her son Leo’s conception: -

**Cherie Blair **conceived Leo at Balmoral after neglecting to pack her “contraceptive equipment”
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7424440.stm

How will young Leo feel about being the result of such a mistake I wonder?

Why do these people feel the need to share such things with us? Isn’t it private???
