We have this problem periodically here in the USA, also. There was row some years back when a museum, perhaps the Met or Guggenheim (I’m going from memory) displayed a 50 cent crucifix in a jar of the artiste’s urine.
Smart folks directed their ire toward the Congress, which partially funds the museums. The resulting flap threatened the funding. The display has not been reprised!
Personally, I think engagement preferable here. For example, I would like to ask the artiste whether the statue he used was one of his own, or if he bought it at a garden store.
