Those in charge finally closed this exhibit, which included a piece mocking Jesus lewdly, after the President of the Philippines personally phoned and spoke against this exhibit, after legal action was begun against those responsible for this exhibit, in the face of attention in the media, and after threats were made against the center and the people responsible.

I read about this. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. It is so bad it can’t be described on this forum. That’s all I’ll say.
 
I haven’t seen the images but based on the complaints and descriptions I hear I support it going down. Freedom of religion doesn’t give you the right to be a jerk. (And to you secularists out there, this is the flipside of banning prayer in school because it causes “anxiety” to agnostics)
 
I was reading the article and wanted to know what this artist was about. I searched him on youtube. I didn’t even let the video play on for 2 seconds and quickly exited. I got an eyeful. This is sacreligious and highly offensive to the point of nausea; in other words EVIL. Please don’t encourage this guy by checking his work out. Truly sick.:eek: Do the Lord a favor and don’t be tempted to even regard this guy’s work.

It’s about time they shut it down! Even Imelda Marcos was complaining about it. :mad:
 
If this is art as self-expression… I can only guess his persona…
 
I heard that there are lots of people who can’t wait to show this guy their own freedom of (self)expression…ala Manny Pacqiao style. Even Pacman’s outspoken dearest mother has a say on this.

I wonder where he is hiding now?
 
MANILA, Philippines – An artists’ coalition, decrying the closure of an exhibit at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is moving to reopen it on what was supposed to have been the “last day” of the exhibition.

Lending their support to artist Mideo Cruz and the fight against censorship and attacks on freedom expression, the Palayain ang Sining (Free the Arts) called on the CCP to reconsider its closure of the “Kulo (Boil)” exhibit.

“We call on the CCP to reopen the exhibition in the spirit of free flow of ideas and cultural expressions,” the coalition of artists, critics and academics said in a statement.

Spokesperson Iggy Gutierrez said they have been planning to reopen the exhibit on Aug. 21, including Cruz’s Poleteismo.

“We call on all artists to join us in our cause and mount a creative protest against censoship,” he said in a press conference at the University of the Philippines on Thursday.

He added that they have also been planning to showcase the “Kulo” exhibit in other venues but declined to give details so as not to preempt it.

The press conference on Thursday, was attended by a broad range of artists’ groups, such as Sining Bugkos, Ugatlahi, the Concerned Artists of the Philippines and Artists Arrest, among others.

The groups threw their support behind Cruz and former CCP visual arts head Karen Flores, who resigned on Wednesday.

Flores, who was also in Thursday’s forum, pointed out that religion should not lead people into hatred, and should instead enlighten people.

“Religion should lead us to practice tolerance amid our differences,” she added as she called on students and teachers to support artists practicing freedom of expression.

This is what these kind of secularist want! All religions and their faithful should be seen not heard; meanwhile militant anti-theists should be free to mock and commit blasphemy against the religious while wagging their fingers with the bile of tolerance at the people they mock.
