I believe that love and justice are inextricably intertwined. Love remains the virtue. Love produces justice just as justice is the fruit of love. We have a court system, not a justice system. That is probably why divorce was not intended by God, and why Christ implored us to settle with our brother while on the way to court.

Justice is defined as “The upholding of what is just, especially fair treatment and due reward in accordance with honor, standards, or law.”

Love is defined as " A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person."

It is possible for love to cause justice but it is not necessary.
It is possible for love also to cause injustice such as with Christ on the cross.

Love doesn’t necessarily produce justice which is why love, as Christ calls us to it, is considered to be a supernatural gift of the holy spirit. It is hard to love despite all the evil that surrounds us. It is hard to love your brother who has done you wrong.

For many true justice will not be served until judgement day.

“Mercy” wold seem a better link to “justice.”

I agree a little more with “love” linking to “charity” but I don’t think that they are completely dependant on eachother as some of the other posters were eluding to with “love” and “justice.”

I don’t think “mercy” is better linked to “justice” because mercy is like forgiveness and justice is like payment. Sometimes the just thing to do would be to show mercy but depending on the situation that is entirely arguable. I think that we need to consider when discussing such things is perspective. With a given situation two different persons can see justice entirely different.
For example: Let’s say that a man is jailed for murdering someone. His wife may believe he is innocent and so justice to her would be his release yet the murdered’s wife may believe he is guilty so justice to her may be his imprisonment.

Does either wife’s judgement depend on love, charity, or mercy?

murder is the ultimate sin against another. murder takes away a life and abruptly sends someone to particular judgment in many cases “unprepared.”

if someone is proven guilty by irrefutable evidence the judgment is to be behind bars for the rest of his life. the “mercy” for this person is already woven into the system…“no cruel or inhuman treatment…” that is “justice WITH mercy.”

And yes, we have strayed.

Blashemers commit a great sin against a most holy God and willingly separates himself/herself fro Him. to die, never to have remorse for this sin, is a great obstacle to eternal life in Heaven.

Agreed however one could also argue that life behind bars is merciless and that you could provide true mercy by letting it go all together. My point is that mercy depends on perspective.

Society has a duty to protect itself from killers. Prison restricts a killer’s movements and actions. Letting him go is insane.

Blasphemy is a sin against the Second Commandment…it is a mortal sin.
