I guess I’m an optimist. I had no idea that other Parishes did this. How awful.
I live in a semi-rural area, and stuff like this doesn’t happen here. We’re “behind the times.” That’s a good thing.
You know, I’ve had dreams where I’ve seen Consecrated Hosts in soufflets in Church potlucks. In one dream, I walked into a room at church and saw pieces of Consecrated Hosts stuck into chocolate chip cookies and Hosts stuck into dishes of scalloped potatoes as decor. I was horrified at all the dishes served with Consecrated hosts stuck inside as garnishment!
And you know — what I saw on that video is just as horrifying to me. I wouldn’t have believed it possible if I’d not seen it with my own eyes! If I had seen this display in a dream, I’d have awoken in the middle of the night with a cold sweat! I’d have prayed for God to have Mercy on us and to not punish us in a sea of fire.
I’ve had other dreams of seeing people walking up to recieve a host that had been “consecrated” by a female priest. When the Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist would hand out the host and would say, “The Body of Christ,” in my dream, I would yell and scream, “NO IT ISN’T!!! A WOMAN CANNOT CONSECRATE A HOST. IT’S ONLY BREAD! IT’S NOT HIM! STOP!”
In my dream, no one heard me. No one listened. I am correct, too. Holy Orders only has its sacramental effect on Men. Women cannot recieve the effects of Holy Orders. All the women who’ve been “ordained” are really still part of the laity. Therefore, all their consecrations are still substantially bread and wine and not Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.
And don’t accuse me of being sexist. I’m female!
If we don’t so SOMETHING to stop this sort of thing, the next thing we know, we really will find pieces of Consecrated Hosts stuck in dishes of Scalloped Potatoes at Church Potlucks, or we’ll see pieces of Him broken up and stuck in Chocolate Chip Cookies!
(One note: They were just dreams. I’m not a mystic. I’m not claiming Private Revelations).
Anyway, I used to be an ultra-traditionalist. I can TOTALLY understand their point of view. I don’t agree with the schisms of the Ultratraditionals. I don’t want any part of the schisms — but I can see where they’re coming from.
And you know — maybe we should listen to them!
Things have gone WAY too far!
I think that the New Roman Missal will help A LOT. It has an English translation that is more accurate to the Latin Mass of 1962 (?year?). This will solve lots of problems. It’s coming out in 2007 from what I heard through “the grapevine.”
And hey, those who don’t want to conform to the new Liturgy and those who want to continue to “party” during Mass can go form their own Church as far as I’m concerned. In reality, they’re already in schism, for anyone who truly believes in the Real Presence would NEVER come to Mass dressed as Barney or the Devil or Cat Woman! In my opinion, those people are Protestants dressed in Catholics — well, some of them at least! Some were just dressed as “ghouls and goblins!” How shameful.
And if they DO believe and still come to Church dressed as a Pagan, then shame on them.
Had I been there during that Mass, I think I would’ve abstained from receiving the Eucharist. I’d have stayed in my pew and prayed. I would have wanted no part in their sins.
The only thing good about that Mass (beside the Real Presence though it was profaned) was the Choir dressed as Angels. The angel part was OK.
Other than that, it was BAD, BAD and BAD!!!

That video makes me so ANGRY that … I just have no words to describe my feelings.
That priest is a living example of Judas Iscariot. In fact, he’s worse than Judas Iscariot because that priest has held the Real Presence with his bare hands — and he still betrayed Our Lord! How dare he! Who does he think he is???
I’ve been trying to get some of my former SSPX friends to return to the Church. I ask this priest — what am I supposed to say to them now??? They’d NEVER return after seeing that video! This display RUINS any attempt at reconcilliation with SSPX!
How dare he parade around as Barney before ending the Mass! That is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
If he wanted to have a Halloween party for the kids, then have a Halloween party in the Parish Hall, OUTSIDE of Mass, outside of the Real Presence.
I see this display as a deliberate, obscene gesture to Rome — you know, the kind involving certain fingers. I think this priest did this on purpose. He was deliberately defying the authority of Rome. This is my interpretation.
Anyway, Iike I said, words are insufficient to describe my outrage.

reverence and godliness to be restored in the church.

To answer your question, yes, this is One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church… I would be curious when you think the Church was at it’s best? The Church has always had it’s issues with people who are part of the Church, priest, nuns, parishoners, bishops, cardnels, popes… But, Jesus said he would be with us until the end, he didn’t say he would leave us when preist do things that go against the Church and it’s teachings. He is with us, and standing firm, we shall not fall.

I am not a theologian. In fact, I got Confirmed a year ago. Since I returned to the Church, I’ve read at least two books on the Mass. I am a novice and I know what the Mass means and what great reverence and humility is required in those who participate in this Holy Sacrifice.
I just can’t see a priest knowing less than I do about the Mass. I have a hard time believing anyone who’se gone through Seminary could be that stupid or ignorant. In fact, even if that priest had graduated last in his class, he should still know more than me!
There is just no excuse for this behavior when there is so MUCH material available out there on the Mass and what it means.
I think this behavior was this priest’s effectually saying to Rome, “You have no authority over us.” That’s the way I interpret this whole affair.
Again, I think you’re only being kind, and I respect that, too.
One could say that you’re like the optomistic and good Jane Bennett and I’m like the more pessimistic and sarcastic Elizabeth Bennett. Both women are good people. They simply see the world through different eyes. (ref. to Pride and Prejudice).

That made me sad. I’ve listened to how people in Africa relish the opportunity to experience our Lord in the Eucharist. How they’d pray long after the final blessing. How they cherished the experience to receive Him. The frivolous nature and lack of gratitude for the Gift, the true gift of the Eucharist within that Mass that I just watched made me sad. I’m cognizant that I may not fully cherish the Gift I receive at every Mass, especially in the way that I should, but what I just saw sickened me. It left me troubled.
I didn’t want to see that.
