I saw some of his material when I homeschooled years ago. I am Catholic and being Catholic I did not care for some of the anticatholicism in his materials. So if your Baptist you may like him.

I only know about Bob Jones because he was mentioned in the Jack Chick tracts here or on Jimmy Akins site. My mother sent me some of Jack Chick’s famous anti-catholic materials and one of the apologists suggested I read it. :confused: Maybe he was mentioned in that silly paper?

These people make me feel sad.😦 They are not followers of Christ, they can’t be. True followers (even those that don’t think for themselves) don’t attack others. It seems these people serve themselves and their power-egos and not the Lord and that’s the type of followers they get.

I came across this Jesus is Lord website a few minutes ago looking for a list of Popes only to see more vicious attacks. This site came up like #3 or something on the search.
 
I heard of BJU through homeschooling as well. Many homeschooling catalogs carry the BJU curriculum. I stopped purchasing from one last year when they put this two-page spread about how wonderful Bob Jones was in their catalog (picture on the cover, too). It never fails to astound me when I see fellow CATHOLIC homeschoolers using or recommending BJU or ABeka curriculum. I don’t care how pretty a book looks, how much the kid likes it, or if they are “just using the Math, and there’s nothing anti-Catholic in that book.” Buying their books still supports them financially, so they can continue printing the anti-Catholic stuff. :mad:

I am Baptist signed up for RCIA / RCIC.

I was greatly turned off by their stance on inter-racial dating (I am White and my wife is Black and beautiful). I guess if it bothers me so much, why was I a Baptist. I suppose I shouldn’t be so fast to paint all Catholics with some small problem they may have had in a remote corner somewhere.

I think Bob Jones University also has color-coded sidewalks on their campus. Blue for boys and pink for girls.

When I went to College (at Penn State), there were many classes where some of the girls should have dressed a little more conservatively and worn a little less perfume. So some improvement in modesty would be welcome (so the male students can pay attention to class, instead of looking over at so-and-so with the low cut blouse). I lived for awhile in a Protestant Christian “fraternity” house and knew it was frequently a problem with others, not just me.

But I think Bob Jones may have gone too far with the sidewalks. For example, when I was a student, it used to be Christian etiquette to offer to escort a Sister back to her dorm if it was dark (from student meetings, a Bible study, etc.). How can you do that if you can’t even walk the same sidewalk?

Bob Jones is my dad…but not THAT Bob Jones. THAT Bob Jones gives Bob Joneses everywhere a bad name. 🙂

That’s just a cute legend, like the supposed moat around the campus. See the web site for an actual view of the school.

My pastor is a graduate of Bob Jones Univ. - about 40 years ago,

I will tell you - our Catholic Kids will not go there … that is for sure.

Any info you could provide would be awesome!

This has NOTHING to do with God’s Graces, or any way to grow with God. I really can’t find any other purpose in this other than to fictionally discribe Catholics as evil.

The Bob Jones University Graduates I have known are fine people, many are now in more mainline denominations.
