Heh, I remember at the beginning of the semester I took two of my new college friends, both from Long Island, on a trip to Kings Mountain. We loaded up in my car, which obviously belongs to a Catholic (Rosary, I love My German Shepherd sticker, Benedictine Medal stickers, Belmont Abbey College stickers…) and when we got to the parking lot on the mountian, there was a big white bus with BOB JONES UNIVERSITY painted on the sides. I thought, hmmm, 3 Catholics, and 2 are yankees (I’m a SC native) . “Guys,” I said, “Looks like today we may become martyrs.”

I have first hand knowledge. They are not teaching anything about your faith except what any other reformation religion
teaches. Martin Luther, a Catholic priest found faults with
some of the teachings and practices of the Catholic church.
Many others already knew this. That was a catalyst for the
reformation in the northern European theatre.

There are major differences between the doctrine of salvation
between Roman Catholicism and most other reformed, protestant,
dissenting, baptist, etc. denominations. Obviously there
are many other doctrinal differences. But this isn’t what you
are interested in.

The university teaches traditional church doctrine (apostolic age
to now). Of course, the Catholic church also claims this but
they differ on many doctrines. So if Catholicism is mentioned at
BJU, it is only in that they are concerned about the eternal destiny
of someone that they believe is not saved. Although not
as vocal, the Catholic church essentially does the same thing.
The only difference is, that the evangelistic person is trying to
win the Catholic soul whereas I suspect the Catholic isn’t out
there proseletizing because they don’t really have a burden for saving others. Note also that many people in these other denominations are actually people who were once Roman Catholics and they tend to mention Catholicism more only because they have come out of it.

But the university itself (in this current age) does not, from I am aware of, denegrate Catholics…but does stand against the church in that it believes they are teaching wrong doctrine.

Bob Jones University is neither reformed nor calvinistic. They were once dominated by faculty in the Presbyterian ranks who could be identified by both these labels. But the current faculty tends to be Baptistic in belief, hence dispensational and also not calvinistic (if labels must be used).
They do, indeed, find fault with Roman Catholic doctrine and practice as do any non-RC churches and institutions. But they
do agree on some cardinal doctrines such as the deity of Jesus Christ, the trinity, and a few others.

I am doing a Masters project on the anti-Catholic movement. I am very interested in Bob Jones University. There is a young lady in one of my classes that attended the school, and she has been somewhat shy about talking with me. I was wondering if anyone out there had first hand knowledge of the institution and what they are teaching about our faith.

I had two old neighbors that went to Bob Jones. I was surprised that they did and asked them about it. They just said that was a long time ago. **Both, by the way transferred to West Point after their first or second year. ** I don’t know too much about philosophies and such. They people I know may not have agreed with the Catholic Church teachings, they weren’t anti-Catholic. Both had a “to-each-their-own” outlook.

After spending a year or so at BJU, they probably wanted to transfer to a more liberal school.
