“When John Boehner rose from Minority Leader to Speaker in January, he not only expanded his staff and his paycheck, he more than doubled the expense-account check he cashes each month.”

"The boost in Boehner’s expense account is in addition to the $30,000 increase in the base pay that he began to collect in January after becoming Speaker. According to the Congressional Research Service, the Minority Leader’s salary was $193,400 last year. This year’s Speaker salary is $223,500.

That means between his pay and his expenses, Boehner saw his annual checks jump from $203,400 to $248,500 in January, an increase of about 22 percent."

So you’re saying that Boehner is now enjoying the pay and perks that were once Nancy Pelosi’s?

Just wondering did she see a corresponding decrease in pay going to House Minority Leader?

I’m not saying anything. The author of the Article is saying it.

As for point 2. Read the article. Draw your own conclusions.

I read the article, it appears to be intentially vague by stating “no record of any leadership expense-account payments from her office” which is to be expected since expense account payments would be paid TO her office not FROM her office.

What is the purpose of the article? What is the purpose of this thread? Is it to discredit Boehner? Is Boehner that good that someone would have to resort to such a non-story, which actually caused us to do some quick research and find out he’s more frugal than Nancy Pelosi?

The ambiguity or lack of it by the author is on him/her not me.

Do the rules of this forum require that I divulge my point or purpose for posting a news story? If it does, I will be happy to comply.

I doubt this thread could add or detract from Boehner’s credibility. I made no reference to it whatsoever. You may speculate all you like. I can’t do anything about that.

The conclusions that you reach from your own research are your own. I respect your right to draw them as you see fit.

I’m glad the present Rebublican is spending so much less than the previous Democrat House Speaker. Especially on frivolous travel!😃

Knowing what you know about the cost of living in DC … and how much it costs to take people out to nice restaurants … and how much your monthly credit card bills are … I would say that Boehner is being too frugal and is not doing an adequate job of persuading people. If he is going to try to entertain a news reporter or a lobbyist or another member of Congress, then he is going to have to spend a LOT more than that.

This does not seem to be a legitimate news source. The writing reaks of poor journalism. Can you tell my more about the source of information.
Just google Pelosi and military jet and you will get hundreds of hits from every news source available

Why would he pick up the bill for a reporter or lobbyist? just asking.

I’m sorry. Are you saying that a member of Congress should pay, with taxpayer dollars, to get favorable coverage? Wouldn’t this constitute manipulation? Wouldn’t it be better if they would seek out an outlet that was fair and balanced in order to get the truth out?

What he is saying is that with that low level of spending he can’t be spending tax payer dollars to get favorable coverage.
If you’re planning to fly after the new year, you may find a familiar face next to you on your next flight to San Francisco. That’s because Speaker Nancy Pelosi will no longer have access to military aircraft and will instead fly commercial to her district after she becomes House minority leader, her office confirmed to Politics Daily.
For the last four years, Pelosi has had access to Air Force planes to jet home to her California district, one of the many perks that come along with being the most powerful member of the House of Representatives and second in line to the presidency after the vice president.
Pelosi’s predecessor, former Speaker Dennis Hastert, also used military jets to travel back and forth to his Chicago district, but Rep. John Boehner, the next speaker, announced earlier this month that he will fly commercial home to Ohio, a move that will help him avoid the political heat Pelosi has taken for using the ultra-convenient option of skipping commercial flights home.
