Recently, I started a thread quoting Neil deGrasse Tyson who said "science can fix any problem, even if science created the problem in the first place.:

Well, lightning has struck twice in the same place – science.

In this article, the Boeing CEO implicitly admits the problem with the Boeing 737 and says they can fix the problem.

Fixing problems is a best second-guess after science created the problem in the first place. A lot of dead people as a result of the problems that science caused. deGrasse is grimly wrong. He cannot bring back those dead people. Science cannot fix that problem.

Tyson completely sidesteps the need for a moral dimension of science, one that places the value of human lives over profit. This plane is an example of experimentation on human beings.

But improvements can reduced the number of dead people in the future. Your statement applies to nearly all human activities, even the less science based ones.

Large and/or unique airplanes are interesting machines. There’s a bit of context required in this.
First of all, why the flight computers programmed to sometimes ignore the pilots commands? (As suspected in this crash) Well, unlike smaller planes some large planes do not recover from stalls* in an acceptable fashion, if at all. Therefore the computer is programmed to prevent this from ever occurring by igniting the pilot.

Has rogue fly-by-wire caused crashes before? Yes.

Please keep in mind that anytime a human travels over 20 mph it is inherently dangerous. Airliners are designed to transport hundreds of humans at 500 mph in a tube filled with enough fuel to incinerate us several times over through air thin enough to incapacitate then kill us.

Tyson seems to be more focused on Einstein physics than Newton physics. I don’t know why you chose Tyson to make your point about 737s when intergalacial travel isn’t the main issue.
