I think that is awful. Is that actually happening or is that just anecdotal.
It happened a couple of years ago, a baker here in Iowa refused to bake a cake for a lesbian couple who wanted to get married citing her religious beliefs against same sex marriage.

I am sure if you were on any social media today, you saw much support for same-sex marriage today due to the Supreme Court hearings that were held. I was just sadden so many Christian friends and family essentially arguing people who support traditional marriage were the bad guys. I know this is the new societal norm and it’s not going to change anytime soon, but it saddens me.

Do you think it’s more the younger generations supporting same-sex marriage, which is the cohort I belong to? Just curious…
The media agenda is pro gay all the way. Notice how many TV shows in prime time portray gay romance. According to their portrayal of our society its hip to be gay. Our kids have been indoctrinated by what is portrayed in their living rooms. People of faith are ridiculed and portrayed very negatively. the so called news media focuses all their attention on this issue lately and vilifies anyone who dares to offer up a position that disagrees. The lack of faith in our culture is responsible for the decline of moral virtues. Greed is good, people who focus on carnal pleasure are portrayed as the heros of our times, even in all the commercials pushing drugs to increase sexual appetites as if this is the only way to true happiness. Those who have been bombarded from their earliest memories think this is all perfectly normal unless they have parents who impart the Christian faith and value the ten commandments from God and the beatitudes that Jesus gave us. Don’t lose heart. Just pray for those lost in darkness and enslaved by sin. Throughout history, there have been times like this before. Avoid those who want to argue about these political issues and surround yourself with likeminded people of faith. Live your faith out regardless. Share it with those who seek a way out of their misery as there are many. God bless you.

While I’ve read lots of Catholic material, I am not at all convinced by the anti-homosexual marriage argument. I really can’t find any argument that makes sense to me as to why it is such a problem.

Nevertheless, I am Catholic. So that makes this stuff very tricky for me. Fortunately, I’m also an anarchist, so I can just say that I don’t believe it’s any of the government’s business who you love. 👍
" Thus, registered domestic partnerships have been available in California since 1999, and their status has been continually upgraded. The benefits of domestic partnerships now mirror the benefits of marriage very closely. Yet, that has never been enough. The pressure for the complete redefinition of marriage has continued without missing a beat.

Can we be confident that even same sex marriage is the ultimate goal? I think the honest answer is no. The freight train of same sex marriage will not stop at the station called simple “equality.” The legal equivalence of same sex couples with opposite sex couples means that marriage will no longer be society’s most reliable method of attaching mothers and fathers to their children and to each other. Marriage will become a gender-neutral creation of the state, which actively detaches children from at least one of their parents. Parentage will not flow automatically from the marital union, but will have to be assigned by the state. The final stop on this train is the complete de-gendering of society, along with the continual incursion of the state into civil society.

The state must hold that mothers and fathers are completely interchangeable. Biological parents married to each other become officially equivalent to one parent plus their lover. The state will be indifferent as to whether children have any connection with their biological parents.

The experiences of other countries with same sex marriage illustrate that this is no mere expansion of an existing institution. In Spain, the words “mother” and “father” were removed from birth certificates in favor of “Progenitor A” and “Progenitor B”. Courts in Canada have assigned parental rights to three adults. Similar experiences from Massachusetts and the UK leave no doubt that the state will have to continually intervene to prop up same sex marriage, and the gender-oblivious society that comes along with it. Sexual orientation will be viewed as immutable, with sex itself as a mere social construct. and …This ruling gives the electorate the chance to gain genuine clarity from the candidates. The “I oppose same sex marriage, but favor civil unions,” position is the equivalent of “I’m personally opposed to abortion but support your right to have one.” It is a cowardly subterfuge that should no longer fool anyone." I’m 23, and I oppose same-sex “marriage”.
I do so out of love for the LGBT community.

If a Catholic employer who offers marital benefits is forced to pay for benefits to homosexual couples against his\her beliefs. then YES they are being harmed by gay ‘marriage’

Yes, by standing firm for God’s Will against a tide of evil. How easy it would be for the Church to just give in and support evil, but I am glad it stand firm to God’s commands.
We have legal systems to prevent employer discrimination against people. And rightly so.

I asked how is a heterosexual marriage harmed.

The second part of your comment is a religious viewpoint, and not really applicable to the real world. If you believe in God or Evil, that is a concern for you, but not applicable to the discrimination against the LGBT community.

Is there a chaste LGBT community out there?

I am curious on this thread on the sexual orientation of the posters and do they feel that it sways their viewpoint. I am curious as to how many homosexuals for example oppose same sex marriage. Is it just heterosexuals? Or maybe just religious heterosexuals.

If it is harmful (same sex marriage) then I imagine that a lot of homosexuals are against it to.

Are there any homosexuals on here that could offer some insight?

I am heterosexual but I can’t see how same sex marriage can have a negative impact on me at all. In fact I love weddings 🙂

I do think that the homosexuals against SS"M" are being silenced by the militant homosexual community and their supporters. That of course, includes the mainstream media.

There have been a number of homosexuals who have spoken out against it. Do a search.

Think about the next generations.

There is an innate understanding among all people as to what real marriage is. Trying to force a PC view on them won’t work in the long run. It can’t because Divine and Natural Law trump everything man messes up.

is this am American phenomena?

And when it comes down to it, engaging in homosexual acts, it is never an act of love. Damaging the immortal soul of someone is never a loving act.
Come on Brendan! That’s like saying engaging in heterosexual acts is never an act of love.

Aprilfloyd, I don’t think buffalo was being sarcastic. Ask him.

Don’t know for sure but it is prevalent recently. Recognition is given to the network with the greatest number of homosexual characters. As usual TV glorifies them and America gobbles it up. You won’t find the tragedies manifest in the homosexual community shown at all. It is very dishonest.

Always remember to love the sinner and hate the sin. True Christian charity demands fraternal correction. State your position and stay professional.

Truth with love

not

Love without truth
or
Truth without love

Love is not tolerance

BISHOP FULTON J. SHEEN****Christian love bears evil, but it does not tolerate it.

Code:
http://www.catholiceducation.org/images/authos/Sheen8.JPG *Christian love bears evil, but it does not tolerate it. *
It does penance for the sins of others, but it is not broadminded about sin.
*The cry for tolerance never induces it to quench its hatred of the evil philosophies that have entered into contest with the Truth. *
It forgives the sinner, and it hates the sin; it is unmerciful to the error in his mind.
*The sinner it will always take back into the bosom of the Mystical Body;
but his lie will never be taken into the treasury of His Wisdom. *
*Real love involves real hatred:
whoever has lost the power of moral indignation and the urge to drive the buyers and sellers from the temples
has also lost a living, fervent love of Truth. *
*Charity, then, is not a mild philosophy of “live and let live”;
it is not a species of sloppy sentiment. *
Charity is the infusion of the Spirit of God,
which makes us love the beautiful and hate the morally ugly.
Of course, I patiently and kindly explained my position…unfortunately people still think pro traditional marriage = homophobia, but even Christ said the world would hate us.

I think you hit it right on the head! Culturally we are upside down as a society. Plus, I think because gay couples are often portrayed abundantly in the media, people accept it more.

And since when is marriage a right? People can’t marry siblings, relatives (to a certain degree), or animals. Plus, isn’t the case more over if a people in a state can vote to accept or reject same-sex marriage? I know my state has a constitutional amendment banning it, and it was voted on by the people.

Do you have any homosexual and heterosexual friends who want to get married? Would you welcome one marriage and not the other?

As an open question, Why do Catholics have such an issue with homosexual marriage. Is it because their doctrine forces them and they cannot look at it objectively. Maybe the Church on this issue is just wrong.

Read what the Catechism says about homosexuality. Then follow that up with Peter Kreeft’s commentary. Or I can type it up here, if you don’t have access to those sources.

Heterosexual marriage is natural and beneficial to society and children. The other is not and lowers the bar.

The Church is not wrong on this at all.
