Book of Mormon Evidences?

You would have to research each claim and verify references. Of course some of those references are probably by Mormons. I read some of these claims and there doesn’t appear to be any hard evidence for them.

In reading the Book of Mormon I found several things:
  1. In the bible Jesus is never referred to as “Jesus Christ”. He is called simply Jesus or the Christ. In the BOM Jesus when he first appears says “I am Jesus Christ”
  2. There were no honey bees in North America.
  3. In the BOM almost an entire chapter talks against infant baptism. In the bible not a word is said about infant baptism. Now infant baptism did not become an issue until the Reformation. It was an issue with Smith so he worked it into his writings.
There are many other things; millions of people and not a trace of them left, horses when there were none in N.A. and even elephants! I just don’t see how anyone can believe their claims.

Yeah I have heard about those things before. It really does make it hard to believe the Book of Mormon.

Thank you. 🙂

One thing that seriously bothers me about Mormonism is the fact that they didn’t allow blacks to hold the priesthood authority until like the 1970s. And they really don’t have a very good reason for doing so either.
Brigham Young maintained that they were inferior creatures who had no souls! Brilliant!

Wow. I know that Brigham Young was an important person for Mormonism but who exactly was he? Was he one of their “prophets” or something?

Yes, Young was the second Prophet. He took the Mormons out to Utah.

After Joseph Smith was shot to death there was a power struggle in the mormon group. Eventually Brigham Young won over the bulk of the momrons, while others followed other leaders. The first wife of Joseph, Emma Hale, did not go west with Young and the larger body, but remained with a group that eventually became the Reformed Latter Day Saints, RLDS, and then eventually renamed to Community of Christ. Unlike the Utah sect the RLDS did not adhere to polygamy, and they generally maintain that Joseph opposed polygamy all along, anddid not practice it himself.

it is fascinating history. The Utah momrons were an important feature of the settlement of the western territories. They worked on the transcontinental railroads, being farmed out as workers by Young. They were in California at the time of the 49 goldrush. I’m just gettiing into some reading on this subject of mormons, myself. I can’t buy any of their peculiar religion, but the people themselves are fascinating.

Some of the “racist” claims went well into the 1950’s. I think that it is still accepted in Mormon Circles to say that being “black” is to bear the mark of Cain, passed though Noah’s daughter-in-law.

Some of the issues with B.Y and his buddies is clearly cultural. He was from a racist area and time. But, I do not see how God did not tell him to change his ways

Blacks held the priesthood during Joseph Smith’s time. You get a history of blacks and the lds priesthood here:

Please re-post the link. It is missing some parts 😃

I know that this is a biased site, but please study it

This quote is from the site you provied
“Forget everything I have said, or what…Brigham Young…or whomsoever has said…that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with a limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that now has come into the world.”
Why did God allow the light not to enter with the other prophets?

This is an interesting site

From that site we see this
Mauss argues that all christian churches were racist at that day. All the main-stream christian denominations supported slavery, denied blacks the priesthood and/or had a policy of racial segregation. These racist policies only began to change during the civil rights movement in the 1960’s.
This is a blatant and bold lie. The Catholic Church was not segregated and allowed Blacks the priesthood way before the 1960s. Further, the Catholic involvement in slavery, if it is studied was strange. The Catholic Church had rules that shold one own a slave, he must provide a means for that slave to buy his freedom. Work was not allowed on Sundays and Holy Days, and families were not to be split up. Further, in the early 1800s, Rome put the no-no on American Slavery, sending letters to all Bishops to speak against it. None of them did, but Rome had ordered them to.

The author of the web-site does not agree with the assertion either, but not because of history or anythign Cahtolics have or have not done.

The fact is, the LDS church leaders taught being black was a sign of spiritual deficiency and they had scriptures to back it up.

How does one respond to the evidences for the accuracy of the Book of Mormon on this website? mormonevidence.com
The LDS Church has never endorsed any of these “evidences”. They are nothing but musings of one Mormon apologist. All of his claims are based on assumptions, maybes, whatif, could be’s, there is nothing solid there to refute.

IMHO, LDS, Inc. is not making any statements about the BOM because it is so controversial, so much evidence is against it, and it is so politically incorrect, and each person, reading it, interprets it according to their own previous knowlege and cultural heritage. If LDS, Inc. were to make any authoritative statement, it would set off schisms and a minor reformation that would decimate it. So, they are keeping silent about it. 🤷 They are between a rock and a hard place. It has become an embarrassment to them.

You know this will seem rude, but I think valid are you on something you should not be?

We are not embarrassed by the Book of Mormon. Its validity and reality are spoken of often. We had a lesson not to long ago from the official used just about everywhere manual about how the Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion. I suppose your denying the evidence is a choice you can make, but give us a little credit.

I know you have a lot of faith but faith without reason is a false faith. Look at my post #2 and reply to each point if you will.
Using Christ as Jesus’s surname was not a practice in biblical times but it was in Joseph Smiths time. And Jesus never referred to himself in that manner. Using objective reasoning that dates the BOM to recent times. The issue of infant baptism being an issue in the BOM but not even mentioned in the bible is another problem. In biblical times infant baptism was not a problem but it was in Joseph Smiths time so he had to put it in the BOM. So what say you?

Interesting. 🙂 I did not know that. 🙂
don’t fall for it. JS allowed elijah abel to be ordained. the official doctrine of the LDS church is that black people are descendants of cain and as such had to wait until the lord said it was okay to receive the priesthood. a tiny handful of exceptions were made inthe early LDS church but they were clearly individual exceptions for specific reasons and required a “prophet” to approve.

No answer yet so to continue. The BOM says that the swords were made of steel. Yet the technology to produce steel had not been invented. Another blunder by Joseph Smith. The BOM also states that there were great cities with populations in the hundreds of thousands and they were located from North to South and East to West. Some were in the millions. Now in the last battle everyone was killed. So were are these great cities? With roads going to each one and others? Were are all the swords, shields and other things made from steel? No bodies, bones, swords, roads, cities or any evidence of them exist. It is as if they never existed and of course they never did except in the mind of Joseph Smith. Also consider that the metal plates were hidden on earth for over a thousand years and after Joseph Smith “discovered” them they were removed by the “angel” as he could not allow them to remain on earth. So, the greatest evidence was removed to heaven. So the entire Mormon religion is based on one man with a handful of “witnesses” with zero evidence. Without any evidence the Mormons base their religion on “faith”. That is, if you don’t believe the BOM it is because you do not have faith.
