What is the main point, if there is one, we should carry away from John’s book of Revelation?

Does anyone know of a summary or analysis of* Revelation* that is not more confusing than Revelations itself?
 
There are many good books out on the very subject of the Book of Revelation. Check Roman Catholic Books and Ignatius Press and others. The book was written mainly about the times of persecution in John’s day. The message is one of hope and the final victory of good over evil which applies as much throughout the history of the Church up to and including today, as it did then.

Try reading Unlocking the Book of Revelation by Michael Barber. It is a line by line explaination of the book. It is pretty good. You can also get his talk on Revelation at Lighthouse Catholic media for like $3. It is also an entertaining talk. Highly recommended.

Fr. Kenneth Baker, SJ, has written Inside the Bible, a book which introduces each of the 73 books of the bible, giving the place of each book in the bible, a date and author (if known), its theme, a summary of its message, the theology contained in it, as well as an outline and a reflection on a prominent verse. I have my copy in hand and often refer to it when posting here. It is easily read, with each chapter consisting of about 4-5 pages I highly recommend it, as does none other than Catholic Answers’ own Karl Keating.
 
Dr. Hahn’s the Lamb’s Supper is a pretty good book about Revelation and its relation to the Mass.

Excellent question, my friend! Just as much of the Bible describes the things a society and individuals experience when growing in oneness with the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, Revelations are the things one experiences when growing in deep oneness with the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ can be defined as: Always freely choosing to be and to spread the means to be perfectly patient and kind and motivated for God with all the body, and with all the spirit, and with all the thoughts, and with all the will equally towards others and the self for the unbreakable peace and limitless happiness of every relationship and individual of a society.

The main point I have learned is: We all fail to be patient and kind, therefore repent, reconcile, and become better at patience and kindness, even in the face of unjust impatience and meanness.

…let’s see… there was a spiritual battle where Satan attempted a “Pinky and the Brain” move; he used a “Rico Suave” style that gathered millions of followers… both Satan and his minions were cast out from Heaven.

Being a wise servant, Satan kept abreast of God’s Plans–from the very Beginning he attempted to subvert God’s Authority. He even put an anti-Salvation plan into effect where he muddles Truth and Wisdom till the very final chapter (Judgment Day).

Through out the vision granted St. John we find the Alpha and the Omega (Christ) addressing the Church, revealing the harsh truth of human perversion (allegiance with the creature rather than the Creator), and Satan’s all out efforts to desuade man from obeying God to the point of emulating the Holy Trinity with his own unholy trinity and performing great signs to persuade man to follow him. We also find that Christ’s followers, in the millions, partake of Christ’s Glory as they are invited into the Great City (Heavenly Jerusalem).

Christians should expect to be persecuted by godless, worldly powers. But Christ triumphs in the end (and all godless, worldly powers will fall into ruin), so Christians are encouraged to persevere in their faith rather than forsaking it in order to escape persecution, mockery, etc.

I second this recommendation. The full title of the book is Coming Soon: Unlocking the Book of Revelation and Applying its Lessons Today. FWIW, Dr. Scott Hahn and Dr. Brant Pitre also recommend Barber’s book.

Good question.
 
It is a message of Hope for Christians. That’s about as succinct as it can be made, because it can be confusing and is written on many levels.

This was the book we used during our Bible Study on Revelation.

The Lamb’s Supper is also interesting, drawing the parallels to The Mass.
 
As said above, the main point is that evil will come to an end, but through struggles the Church will have to endure tribulation, but there will be many faithful who will endure until the end (end of their lives and those who live in the end times). Christ will come as Judge to destroy evil.

To add to this, as the old saying goes, history repeats itself. Just as the prophecies in Revelation can be applied to so many times in Church history, all those times are types of the final fulfillment. For example, there have been many types of the Antichrist such as Antiochus, Nero, Hitler, etc, but there will come the Antichrist as we see in Revelation.
