Hi,

I am a avid reader with limited funds. I usually read kindle books or kindle unlimited. I rarely read anything but Catholic or Eastern Catholic or Orthodox books. I am currently looking for a great book to read about Jesus. There are so many, even Catholic ones, it is hard to choose.

What I am looking for is hard to put into words, so I will describe what I want out of the book. I am looking simply for a fantastic book that will enhance and take my relationship with Christ to a higher level. It does need to be in one of the groups above.

Thanks!

Pope Benedict’s book is good.
That’s what I would recommend. It comes in 3 volumes. The first covers his public ministry, the second covers Passion Week, and the third covers the infancy narratives.

Pope Benedict’s three volume set, “Jesus of Nazareth,” is very good. Informative both from a historical and theological perspective. Can be difficult for some.

As mentioned before, “The Life of Christ,” by Archbishop Fulton Sheen is my top choice.

FYI, I don’t know about your area, but I read many of Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s books from the public library.

They had just about all of them including The Life of Christ.

They also have other Catholic writers like Thomas Merton and others.

All free to borrow.

I am a book addict.
If I didn’t wat to pay for a book I wanted to read, I went to my local library and ordered it via interlibrary loan for free. You don’t have to pay for the books you read.
I sometimes did this for a book I had heard about, but wasn’t sure it was worthwhile, or for me.

I always recommend The Conferences, by St. John Cassian. That book means the world to me, so please forgive me for repeating myself so many times. It fits your description of what you want, though, in my opinion at least. It is a pricey book, unfortunately.

There’s an older translation which I’m unfamiliar with available on Kindle and also a PDF, which I think might be able to be downloaded onto some type of reading device, though I’m not at all sure about how that works. Anyway though, you might give it a try and see if it resonates with you, and then have your local lending library track down a copy of the exact edition at the Amazon link above. I really love the Boniface Ramsey translation, but as I said, I’m totally unfamilar with the other translation. It’s a big book, and it’s not a fast read, but it is engaging and enjoyable. It’s not easy to explain what’s hidden in that book.
