I’m 2/3 into the book and definitely a book you can’t put down! Raymond A. does a fantastic job as the author and speaks in plain language. I was totally flabbergasted at the way Cardinal Mahony of Calif. treated her. She is a living saint and we can learn from her and her constant trust in God.

Read the book and buy an extra to leave at a hair salon, dentist office, or church, etc. with a note, “free, read, pass it on”.

A movie SHOULD definitely be made of her life!

One thing that took me back by surprise was her steadfast defiance against liberal clergy! How a little nun stood her ground against Bishops threw me for a loop!

Heck, I’m afraid to say anything against the administrators on this site - and here she is telling Bishops to literally back off!

And thanks for including her quote. Her book inspired me so much and filled me with trust in God, that I am going to do the ridiculous so God can do the miraculous!

It really would be a great movie.

I heard Raymond Arroyo in a radio interview, where he was doing his funny (yet accurate) voice imitation of Mother Angelica. I look forward to hearing him read the book on CD. I’ve already read the book – so great. I laughed out loud quite a few times.

Raymond Arroyo has made the point in a number of interviews - and he is correct - that the liberal types in the hierarchy have been screaming for women to have more power in the church, until a genuinely powerful woman like Mother Angelica comes along. Then they want her to shut up.

It goes to show peoples blind prejudice toward the gospel. Like St. Augustine said, “Sin blinds the conscience”. Don’t be suprised that when Enoch and Elijah return that the liberal hierarchy types will try to silence them. They treated Pope John Paul II how ever they pleased. They did what “felt good”. I pray that they will act like Apostles, who sanctify, teach and govern instead of acting like cowards. I’ve protested to the USCCB on more than one occassion. I’ve gotten no response from them. And still have yet to hear one. Just look at what blind prejudice towards the gospel did to the pharisees and the scribes. “They desired to kill to Him”. Our rebelious and flaming liberal society doesn’t like being told what to do.

Her real name is Rita. Last name is Italian and it escapes me.

She was given the religious name “Angelica” by her own mother after she did her postulancy at the convent. The Mother Superior allowed Rita’s own mother to give her a religious name because the Mother Superior liked Rita’s mother, who also later became a Poor Clare nun.

The wedding commenced on November 8, 1945. Mae Francis arrived early, carrying a cake and flowers. Her sister-in-law, Rose, had fashioned a handmade wedding dress for the occasion. As a special tribute, Mother Agnes forfeited her right to select Rita’s religious name, allowing Mae that honor. Mae chose the name Angelica, because Rita had been, in her words, an “angelic and obedient daughter.”

The book is quite good - reads more like a novel than a biography.

I know, I „read” it on CD’s. Raymond Arroyo, who reads his book is hilarious.

I never had good memory, and now, when I’m getting older it is not improving. I forgot that episode. My apologies to CindyGia, who’s wisdom and knowledge I questioned. I was wrong, and you were right, CindyGia. It’s not the first time I was proven wrong. Ask my wife if you don’t believe me.

I think that the people in the USCCB should wash themselves in their own blood. They owe the Church an apology. They should apologize for they treated Mother Angelica, that is a public apology. I’ve asked the USCCB on different occasions, but they won’t do it.

Yes, they should. From what I can see, they seem to have behaved an awful lot like the English bishops did when they condemned St. Joan of Arc, and when they sided with Henry VIII (putting their country and political interests above God and the Church).

Mother Angelica has done so much for the Church- particularly in the United States. I think many of us would not have stayed orthodox in our faith (or become orthodox at all, or even converted- for those who are converts) had all we had were the USCCB’s programs. She gave many of us a look into what Catholicism is supposed to be that we may never have seen. She showed us that the Catholic Church of today is the same Church of Fulton J. Sheen, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Therese, St. John of the Cross, St. Dominic, St. Francis, St. Benedict, and countless other Catholics. She showed us that it is still the Church of Jesus Christ. She has been an inspiration to many people- because she has done so much, but has endured such suffering (and is loving and compassionate, and has a joy many do not have). She gave faithful Catholics in the US hope, when heterodox teachings, and political correctness seemed to have a permanent stronghold on the Church. Though there are still problems- and there will be until the last day- I believe things are getting better.

It made me realize just how many close calls both Mother Angelica, and EWTN have had- how close all of this was to never existing, or crashing and burning. It made me appreciate it even more. It was the first real account of an orthodox Catholic going from the time before Vatican II to where the Church is today that I had read- it was very insightful. I admired her responses to criticisms that the shrine she built was too elaborate, and I like how the tabernacle in the shrine has diamonds on the inside of it- for God alone. We need more places like that in the world. Though even the finest artisans of all time, with all the knowledge and resources of all time could not build a shrine that truly mirrors the splendor that is the most Blessed Sacrament (indeed if we could, it is God himself, and in our human limits, we would be consumed by the awesomeness- even before the image of God had even begun to be captured), we can sure try our best to give God the best.

And yet the cowardice of the many bishops of England in condemning St. Joan of Arc is one of the many things that led to the great schism and the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century.

I’m a little late jumping in on this thread, but I just finished the book, which finally appeared at our library. It was so good!

I love Mother Angelica’s unwaivering faith that if God meant for her to do something, He would provide the means.

I love her ability to stand up for what’s right and not worry about any “politics” or being liked, just doing what was right for God.

I loved it when she was talking to one of the bishops about broadcasting one of their meetings and they couldn’t come to an agreement, so she just said the network wouldn’t do it. The bishop tried to threaten her by saying something like “Who are you to tell me you won’t air this meeting?” She said “It’s my station.” He said “You won’t be around forever.” And then she replied “I’ll blow the darn thing up before I let you get your hands on it!”

I also love her devotion to her spouse, Jesus, especially in building the chapel and putting diamonds inside the monstrance, that only Jesus could see!
