I have not been baptized, yet I understand what it means by being born again.
From above of course. Again meaning it is a process to be fully born again. Freed from all sin is to be born again.
… which means to be baptized.

I thought you were referring to be baptized by a priest.
The Holy Spirit does the same thing.
When did the Holy Spirit baptize you with physical water?

We should read the Scriptures and follow the interpretation of these Scriptures based on the historical understanding of Christians over all the centuries, which means from the Apostles and their direct successors.

Question: Did a successor of the Apostles teach you that the Holy Spirit causes one to be born again, without water or an agent of the visible Church?

The Holy Spirit does it without water, He does it by grace.
I don’t follow the interpretation of the scriptures, I follow the living word of the Holy spirit., not the written word.
Scripture says the letter killeth, the spirit gives life.
Do you pick and choose scripture, why not this one?

Interesting that you claim to not follow an “interpretation of the scriptures,” yet you have no problem sharing your “interpretation” with us about what born again means!

So just a refresher: Jesus says that we must be born again “of WATER and the Spirit.” Your assertion that “the Holy Spirit does it without water” contradicts the words of Our Savior.
And it also contradicts the constant teaching of Christianity for nearly 2,000 years, which has told us that the grace you refer to is conferred through actual water.

Its just a phrase what protestants use to give color to their heresy, basically, all you have to do is say a prayer for forgiveness and then you have an automatic ticket to Heaven, or at least, that’s what I was taught(I’m a former protestant) which contradicts what Scripture says about working out ones salvation, God bless!
Yeah! Like Catholics can live any way they want as long as the “confess” it to a priest.
Being Born Again is a Change in our lives…being “Born Again” is being Born into the Life of God…it has nothing to do with the " magic words" that you present… It is a New Way of Living" it is to be “Having the Mind Of Christ” in you

It has to do with a Spiritual Tranaformation into the Life of God.

Water baptism was done when Christ was alive, after He died His spirit came in to us and that is who takes our sins and it is then we are reborn.
The church teaches history, but in the new testament it says the letter killeth. and the spirit giveith life. I go by the living spirit. in the new testament.

Light beam- this makes no sense. If you go by the
New Testament but reject the letter? The New Testament
is written in letters. So do you just reject the written word?

So again this makes no sense. Jesus died but his Word
lives on in the New Testament in which He clearly states
YOU must be born again in Water and in the Spirit.

Are you saying Christ didn’t know you don’t need water???

Why do you think the new testament says "the letter killeth and the spirit giveth life.
I see nowhere in the new testament that we need to be baptized by water after Christ died.

Ventura – I presume your heart is in the right place, but I encourage you to really investigate the logic of your position vs. the logic of historic Christianity (i.e., Catholicism, which you should realize was the only version of Christianity for 1,000 years).

The statement “the letter killeth and the spirit giveth life” doesn’t mean what you apparently think it means, and clinging to that mantra seems to be preventing you from dialoging about what baptism and being born again really entail.
Check out the Catholic explanation of things and I think you’ll be surprised at how logical and sound they really are!

Then you haven’t read it. I’ve never seen a translation
that didn’t say water.

Show me in the new testament where is does mention water to baptize.
Acts 8:36-39 is enough to answer the question.

But the main one: John 3:5 is the most helpful in regards to the original topic of this thread, which is being “born again.”

You are still back in history, now we have the living Holy Spirit, who needs water to be born again now?
I feel sorry for those who study too much. a mind must be still in order to hear the Holy Spirit.

“Be still and know that I am God”.
I know more than you think and without study. The Holy Spirit is within, that is what most Christians miss.
you cannot get it from reading, you must listen quiet to experience it.

Its what I was taught by my baptist mother, her doctrine taught that if you pray for forgiveness, then you can go to Heaven, no matter if you die in Mortal sin or not, nothing more than foolish heresy,

God bless!

I went thru a period where I was going to a Pentecostal church for about a year, I had a good friend at the time that was a born again christian and he convinced me to start going and I did enjoy it, but always had it on the back burner of my mind that some of this was not correct in what I had been taught as a Catholic, but I had to keep in mind, I had Catholic parents and Catholic teachings were engrained in me from a young age, so anything that contradicts that would seem wrong or strange.

I was finally baptized Pentecostal, and was dunked full body into a tub of water behind the altar, and I do have to admit, once I went under and came back up, i did honestly feel different, like a weight had been lifted from me.

Something else I noticed in this church was the people were much more devoted than anything I had ever seen in a catholic church, people willingly came up to the altar and would talk about their experiences and how God has changed their lives. Ive never seen this happen in a catholic mass! Pentecostal people just seemed more devout christians somehow. Of course, I do not attend that church anymore or any Pentecostal church.

Religion taught by your mother is reading about god, but, now knowing Him.
Your mother meant well, Christ said on the cross, " forgive them Father for they know not what they do.
I made some lulus.

Hang on, friend. You asked for any Bible verse that mentioned water baptism – and you did so in a tone dripping with certitude that such as verse couldn’t be found.
But I provided one for you; not one of the symbolic baptisms of John, but of the true “born again” kind employed post-resurrection.

Instead of acknowledging, you simply wave it away and write that you feel sorry for those who study too much?

Keep searching for the truth – an open heart will certainly find truth! To do so involves the quiet contemplation that you mention, but also logic and sometimes a bit of studying. God bless…
