It’s the sad state of American politics today.and then you have people mocking VP Pence for saying he doesn’t want to be alone with any woman except his wife.
What does that do for his defense?A mistrial has been declared.
Unless the DA decides to retry the case, it is basically a win. I have not heard that they polled the jury, so it is anybody’s guess as to how many wanted to convict on what charges. What does that do for his defense?
It is also a sad statement about moral issues, and it is a sad statement concerning the judiciary (as the judge unsealed transcripts of a civil deposition, and it is a sad statement concerning the press and how they ahve gone about muddying the waters. It’s the sad state of American politics today.
I really doubt they will retry him, what are the chances of them finding another jury at this point.Unless the DA decides to retry the case, it is basically a win. I have not heard that they polled the jury, so it is anybody’s guess as to how many wanted to convict on what charges.
As to the defense, they have had the opportunity to see the witness and evidence against him, they have extensive transcripts of testimony, and they have the opportunity to prepare once more for trial - considering anything they might have wanted to pursue but didn’t, anything they might want to pursue further, anything they might choose not to question… and likewise, the State has the opportunity to review and see if there is anything they can bring to the table, including possibly lesser charges which might result in a conviction.
Well, the DA came out very aggressively that he was going to retry the case. Time will tell.I really doubt they will retry him, what are the chances of them finding another jury at this point.
Thats because it just happened, fresh in everyones mind. I remember back when Casey Anthony was acquitted, so many people were upset at this, they were calling for her to be tried in Federal court, and the next day, the attorney general had a press conference, saying they would take steps to make this happen…yet it never went anywhere, and now years later, no one even talks about Casey anthony anymore.Well, the DA came out very aggressively that he was going to retry the case. I can guarantee the DA did not come out aggressively just because it “just happened” and is "fresh in everyone’s mind’. He has lived with that case longer than any of us here, and he knows the evidence far better than any of us do.Thats because it just happened, fresh in everyones mind. Things heat up and die down, people move on to the next big scandal, I think the DA was just placating all the people who are upset about this right now. If people can move on and accept a mom that killed her own child and got away with it, they will definitely move on and forget what happened with Cosby.
An interesting piece in which he delineates a lot of cases in which trial by media got it wrong.Check out this commentary by Catholic apologist Dave Armstrong.
The same thing was true with Casey anthony, if not more so…yet she has not been mentioned in the news for a very long time, the public has very short attention spans when it comes to big cases like this.Women want a conviction; and the popular press want a conviction. That brings a good deal of pressure to bear, and that can influence any decision making.
