What does that do for his defense?
Unless the DA decides to retry the case, it is basically a win. I have not heard that they polled the jury, so it is anybody’s guess as to how many wanted to convict on what charges.

As to the defense, they have had the opportunity to see the witness and evidence against him, they have extensive transcripts of testimony, and they have the opportunity to prepare once more for trial - considering anything they might have wanted to pursue but didn’t, anything they might want to pursue further, anything they might choose not to question… and likewise, the State has the opportunity to review and see if there is anything they can bring to the table, including possibly lesser charges which might result in a conviction.

It’s the sad state of American politics today.
It is also a sad statement about moral issues, and it is a sad statement concerning the judiciary (as the judge unsealed transcripts of a civil deposition, and it is a sad statement concerning the press and how they ahve gone about muddying the waters.

And it is a good look at our justice system, lest anyone think it is pure in it’s pursuit of truth.

I really doubt they will retry him, what are the chances of them finding another jury at this point.

Well, the DA came out very aggressively that he was going to retry the case. Time will tell.

Thats because it just happened, fresh in everyones mind. I remember back when Casey Anthony was acquitted, so many people were upset at this, they were calling for her to be tried in Federal court, and the next day, the attorney general had a press conference, saying they would take steps to make this happen…yet it never went anywhere, and now years later, no one even talks about Casey anthony anymore.

Things heat up and die down, people move on to the next big scandal, I think the DA was just placating all the people who are upset about this right now. If people can move on and accept a mom that killed her own child and got away with it, they will definitely move on and forget what happened with Cosby.

I can guarantee the DA did not come out aggressively just because it “just happened” and is "fresh in everyone’s mind’. He has lived with that case longer than any of us here, and he knows the evidence far better than any of us do.

That does not mean that he is going to retry the case. Any case that ends in a hung jury is a case that is not coldly clear cut. This case undoubtedly has problems, any number of which may never reach public information. On the other hand, most DA’s will not bring a case to trial if they think that they cannot win it.

Everyone is going to go back and take a long long look at all the evidence which was presented, how it was presented, and they will also look at the questions which the jury presented to the judge, and how that reflects on how the jury viewed what was presented. That may reveal a better approach the DA could take.

It also can result in the case not being re-presented. And only time will tell how this plays out. DA’s do re-present their case; and some are won, and some are lost, and some end a second time in a hung jury.

Women want a conviction; and the popular press want a conviction. That brings a good deal of pressure to bear, and that can influence any decision making.

I have no idea whether or not the case will come up again. But I would not be so quick to think it will just fade away.

The same thing was true with Casey anthony, if not more so…yet she has not been mentioned in the news for a very long time, the public has very short attention spans when it comes to big cases like this.

Not to mention, how in the world would they ever be able to find enough people to seat another jury in this case, at this point, I doubt that is possible

Just some thoughts on the case. I grew up with Bill Cosby. Literally from the time I was born until my adult years, Bill Cosby was a near constant presence in my home, from his various TV series, to his comedy albums, books, etc. When these accusations started coming out, I didn’t want him to be guilty. That said, a preponderance of accusations doesn’t mean guilt. It doesn’t look good for him actually being innocent (despite the acquittal), but as any Catholic should be aware, where there’s smoke in these situations, there isn’t necessarily fire. I find it interesting that in the initial jury vote, the majority wanted to acquit him.

As far as rape culture and rape myths go, one I keep coming back to is the one about how it’s a myth that a large number of women make false rape claims out of spite, vengeance, or for financial/fame reasons. Despite how many times I read that that’s not true, I have a hard time ignoring it due to how many of my friends have been the victim of false rape accusations (and when I say false, either they had several to dozens of witnesses to the fact that there was never even the possibility of an encounter with their accuser, or other evidence later exonerated them and the accuser recanted). I’m sure the statistics on it pull from a large sampling than just the people I know, but when that large a percentage of the people in your sphere fall into a group that allegedly doesn’t exist, it’s only natural to doubt the statistics.
