I just heard on AM 760 Talk radio that several clerics are offering a bounty of $25K and a car for the death of the cartoonists who created the infamous cartoons that have sparked the world wide violence. There are some compelling questions that one can’t help but ask and observations that beg to be made.
The question: What Religion, at least Religion as we know it encourages the rioting, violence and deaths that have resulted from these cartoons?. No editorial here, no ‘uncharitable’ diatribe, just a simple question to ponder.
Observations: We have been told that these people that have taken up the sword are a minority and it is only these few radicals who subvert the Muslim faith. Really? If there is one truth to be gleaned from this uprising it is that it definitely isn’t a minority. These Clerics, who are the religious elders are offering up bounties on the people responsible for the creation and distribution of the infamous cartoons.
What is unfolding before us is a genius, sinister plan to undermine the majority of people in the world who truly believe and practice their Faith. Jews and Christians alike have forever been persecuted; have been subjected to ridicule, torture and death because they believed in their Faith. Our Lord fobids us from taking up the sword teaching us that those who take up the sword, will die by the sword. Our Lord also taught us to turn our cheek and pray for our enemy. Our Lord demonstrated this tremendous restraint in the Passion that He endured for us.
We have also been led to believe that despite the various languages, customs and cultures of faithful people throughout the world that in the end we of Faith are all in our own way worshipping the same good and loving God. Really?
We have heard in the news several esteemed clerics comparing the pain and anguish as the result of these distasteful cartoons to that of the Holocaust. Really?
They would also have us believe that because this violent, take no prisoners mentality is within the realm of Faith that they are afforded the same respect, religious freedom and tolerance Jews and Christains have struggled for. Really?
Contrasting all that Christians and Jews have and continue to endure with that of a few tasteless cartoons, maybe the appropriate reaction would have been to turn this world into a parking lot.
We haven’t nor will we ever because we of Faith strive to live by the Ten Commandments the one and only true GOD has given us. Really!!!
