In a similar vein to this topic, I’ve noticed that the priest at the local university, in addition to bowing his head at the mention of Jesus, Mary, and the Saint of the Day, also bows his head when he mentions “Francis, our Pope” during the Eucharistic Prayers. Is this a personal practice of his, or is it also done elsewhere among the more traditional crowd?
Never heard of this, and I doubt it’s in the GIRM.

Yes, I once knew a Priest who did this.

It was done out of reverence for the Holy Office, no matter who is in it.

Though the old rubrics did not mandate it, many of the old rubrical scholars maintained that one should bow one’s head when the Sovereign Pontiff’s name was mentioned in the Canon of the Mass, or in other liturgical situations.

This is the most depressing thread I have read in the history of the internet.

So basically, 99% of the Roman Catholic Church is just disobeying the rubrics on a weekly basis. My morale is so unbelievably low right now.
