boy did the pope call that one.

Hopefully it will not take us another 2000 years.
Our time is not God’s time.
If we could actually listen to what he is saying really listen and obey look where we could be!
If we have not listened to the holy words of the great saints and fathers of the Church over two thousand years, what makes you think that anyone is going to listen to Pope Benedict XVI?

Gods Grace, and hopefully people who could not see it before see it now. And Hope, and Prayers, and maybe seeing while we cannot change the world, we can change ourself. And by one person seeing our change we can be a good example for God. And by being that example they can also change.

Back to teaching starts in the home. I am trying to show my kids that not only did they miss it so did we. That we can all learn our lesson together, and start thanking God for giving us what we need, not what we want. And to learn the true words to our needs are few, our wants are many.

Because as a child I never knew want, I never knew need. But as a adult and now my Dad gone I am seeing that. I knew it was him that would always find a way. Now I learned it was really my True Father God that found the way.

And I am trying to teach my kids look around now, see what the Pope was saying. You must put human life and dignity above money. Because when money fails God don’t.

Because when you put people above Money and God above money when money disapears you still have People and God.

Abortion is murder and the abortion mills make a nice profit. It sickens me. 😦
Because when money fails God don’t.
Money always fails—God never fails.

God bless you and your family my good friend rinnie. The soul of your dear father is always in my prayers.

It is Our Lord Jesus Christ that start the Cathloic Church and it is HE that has the keys to heaven,Peter has the Keys Jesus pass them to him,and Peter do not tell me the color I think they may be gold
Isaiah 22:22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

Rev 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

Matt 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:

Perhaps the keys are the knowledge and truth of Christ which the gates of heaven will not prevail against.

So strange that God called them home so close together. I am kinda glad now that Daddy died so close to lent now though, it makes my suffering and his suffering so much easier to bare when I think of Christs suffering.

I will be in Church on our day buddy, and again you Dad will have a candle right beside my Dads,

Again sorry to all and back to post.

The financial meltdown and recession we’ve had is primarily due to the silly notion that everyone is cut out to own a home, should, and will own a home. De-regulating the housing/mortgage industries opened up the gates of hell where lenders were giving loans that were absurd to people who could never really afford them. Dumb buyers purchased homes at ultra low ARM mortgages thinking somehow that “adjustable” really meant “permanent.” Deadbeats who had previously defaulted on loans and who had lousy credit histories were given big $$$ to buy a home and every Tom, Dick, and Harry went along for the ride. It boiled down to stupidity, pure greed, deregulation with socialist intentions, and finally a mass exodus of people who couldn’t make their payments walking away in foreclosure. Banks couldn’t handle the mass foreclosures and ate it, wouldn’t lend out to small businesses, businesses cut back, profits from the big corporations plummeted, stocks tumbled, people were out of work and it was like dominoes. It all started with the foolish idea that everyone deserves to own a home and the liberal agenda of trying to level a playing field loan-wise for people who have lousy credit histories. I hope we’ve learned from the idiocy that took place in the mortgage/banking industries!
I hate to say it, but it boils down to the notion of equalilty IMHO… Now we see equality in religion… We see catholics claiming that any belief in a “creator” is sufficient for salvation…

Equality, equality, equality… There is no such thing really. It is an impossible goal.

So now we see the Church under attack because she holds the keys… 'Cause religion has to be equal now too? I disagree, not all religions are equal!

This modern obsession with equality is from hell… It is based on jealosy.

I believe that excessive “equality” is the platform designed to introduce psuedo-messianism. :o

The Church’s ultimate trial

675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.573 The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth574 will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.575

The lenders have their share of blame to shoulder as well. They were lending huge amounts of money to people who couldn’t really shoulder the debt.

That’s unethical.

And unethical trumps stupid, IMO.

You don’t have to follow Sahri’a law. You were talking about how awful our society is, and chose to use the law about interest as an example of something that is better. You don’t have to follow all of Shari’a law. You don’t have to follow any part of it. You’re being challenged to practice what you’ve preached. 😉
I didn’t preach it. I used it as an example. 🙂

Agreed! But does that not all stem back to greed. And People putting wealth before human dignity. Rather you call it stupid, unethical, greedy, did it not still pertain to people looking out for number 1? And was number 1 oneself or God?

And by what they have done they brought down the whole house of cards on everyone. Especially the poor who suffer even when the country is booming.

If this country would have put human dignity and the People above saving a buck we would have a country that would not be in this mess.

Money is why jobs were moved to other country’s. Not because they felt sorry and wanted to help other country’s. IT was if you don’t want to work for nothing we will find people who will. And they did, and look what happened. Instead of working together and giving a taking it was all take and no give. But it was all dollars above commone SENSE.

You could see it when these so called financial consultants came into big companys and showed them how to make a buck. So they took the working man who for 30 years got up to a decend wage and knew the company and build the company from the ground, and kicked him to the curb, and hired 3 other people at half the salary. But what happened the greed blinded common sense. The 3 other people could not do the work the one man of 30 years could do, so the company failed. SO they paid more for 3 who could not do the work of one and went under. Instead of doing the right thing and rewarding a man for his dedication and work he was thrown under the bus.

Where if the house was made of rock, it would still be standing also. By putting not human diginity and worth above the dollar the company that was build on rock for many years slid away to sand. Does it not narrow down to what the Pope said?🤷

They were allowed to loan money to those who couldn’t afford to repay it, because there was no income verification required. It’s not that no income was needed - just that what the applicant claimed as an income didn’t have to be verified. So, they weren’t giving loans to people who said that they made $30,000 a year. They were giving loans to people who said that they were making $130,000 a year.

It’s unethical to lie about your income, even when you know that no one will check up on it.

I’m really tired of the “poor” people who stole these loans being portrayed as hapless and stupid victims. They knew what their income really was. They knew that they were falsifying legal documents. They aren’t victims. They are the criminals.

So now who is the bad guy here then Kalt the Person who lied about thier income or the person who took the goverments money and bail outs and owe the govenment millions if not billions of dollars and then reward themselves with 100’s of thousands of bonus’s and still owe the goverment millions of dollars. And then which is our money that they loaned. (TAX DOLLARS).

That is a tiny minority of cases. In the vast majority of cases income was reported accurately because the applicants had no idea how little the information mattered. They were laboring under the impression that it was important to be truthful because the information they gave would be getting verified.

In most cases it was not because it didn’t need to be, the lenders had new instructions.

Now, it remains that someone with a 30k a year income should have done the homework to learn that they could not afford a 200k mortgage; caveat emptor. But it remains also that the “experts”, the banks, the ones who would have had the responsibility to teach them, did not do so and that thousands of fly by night brokerages and mortgage writers sprang up with very little regulation and no oversight at all.

There is shared guilt, but it’s not fifty-fifty. The banks and lenders bear the lion’s share and this is why the TARP program is such an insanely, maddeningly, insulting thing.

Yep. It’s that sentiment that we should re-distribute the wealth a la Obama…Makes me think of when Rahm Emmanuel was asked recently at a fundraiser, standing there in tuxedo, what he thought of the first amendment to which he replied succinctly, “it’s overrated!” That view of the BOR and Constitution extends into capitalism and the rest of our country’s heritage. This junk penetrated into the housing market and lending…

Um, Obama voted for TARP. He isn’t on my side. I voted for Ron Paul.

Obama makes a lot of noises but he’s in the pocket of the banks, insurance and oil companies every bit as much as the most corrupt congressman.

FTR I am a Thomas Sowell libertarian, the banks should not have been protected from the consequences of their immorality. The borrowers certainly haven’t been.

The GOP really needs to take the party back from the Neo-Cons.

No disagreement here. I hate so much about both parties. The neo-cons are indeed a disaster. PNAC scared the heck out of me. Hard to believe how many men signed on to the Program for a New American Century. Everyone should google that sucker! Washington in general is just pure politics. Both sides demonize the other for the same exact things. And the electorate is just as fickle and screwed up. We all want a superb economy, no deficits, hardly any taxes but tons of entitlements, strong security but no wars or defense spending, great schools but we just want to blame teachers when things aren’t working (because we can’t blame the parents or our society’s PC flaws that have led it down the toilet), we all want a clean environment but the regulations get out of control, people want health care for everyone but don’t realize what we’d have to do to social security and medicare to achieve it. The Dems and their excessive passion for the abortion lobby killed their own senate bill and they have kept the GOP from making any contribution at all. The Republicans are just keeping quiet and hoping Obama will flounder and screw up some more so they can move in on him in 2012. What a mess. Obama did vote for TARP but so did many Republicans and Bush the first time around in that bailout toward the end of Bush’s tenure. Bush and that prescription medicare bill was a disaster, No Child Left Behind was a joke, Iraq drained us, and now we have Obama to give us Race to the Top (race to the toilet), TARP, cash for clunkers, record deficits, cap and trade (cap and tax), and a bunch of other malarky. When will we get a true conservative? 🤷 I voted twice for Bush, got really weary of him at the end, and now really miss him, like the billboards say. But he was too much the neo-con and I wish we could get some good old fashioned conservative who is willing to cut the fat, stop the bleeding with tax relief, ease some regulations and tighten others up, and deal with Iran!

Gurney,

Good stuff. Very insightful and thorough survey of the American political scene with more balance than it usually gets on messageboards.

I described myself as a Sowell Libertarians but I have been finding myself drawn more to an older conservatism of the Russell Kirk variety and I agree with you, I long for a real Republican.

Sarah Palin scares the **** out of me.
