Buddy seems more focused on secular false compassion than true love and truth.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
In the discussion which followed the publication of the Declaration, however, an overly benign interpretation was given to the homosexual condition itself, some going so far as to call it neutral, or even good. Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil; and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder.
CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITHTherefore special concern and pastoral attention should be directed toward those who have this condition, lest they be led to believe that the living out of this orientation in homosexual activity is a morally acceptable option. It is not.
“Sexual orientation” does not constitute a quality comparable to race, ethnic background, etc. in respect to non-discrimination. Unlike these, homosexual orientation is an objective disorder (cf. Letter, no. 3) and evokes moral concern.
There are areas in which it is not unjust discrimination to take sexual orientation into account, for example, in the placement of children for adoption or foster care, in employment of teachers or athletic coaches, and in military recruitment.
Including “homosexual orientation” among the considerations on the basis of which it is illegal to discriminate can easily lead to regarding homosexuality as a positive source of human rights, for example, in respect to so-called affirmative action or preferential treatment in hiring practices. This is all the more deleterious since there is no right to homo- sexuality
The “sexual orientation” of a person is not comparable to race, sex, age, etc. also for another reason than that given above which warrants attention. An individual’s sexual orientation is generally not known to others unless he publicly identifies himself as having this orientation or unless some overt behavior manifests it. As a rule, the majority of homosexually oriented persons who seek to lead chaste lives do not publicize their sexual orientation. Hence the problem of discrimination in terms of employment, housing, etc., does not usually arise.
CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITHIn reference to the homosexual movement, the letter states: “One tactic used is to protest that any and all criticism of or reservations about homosexual people, their activity and lifestyle, are simply diverse forms of unjust discrimination”
None of which conflicts with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. 2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
Right, it clarifies and explains.None of which conflicts with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
While I certainly agree with the quoted statement, it has always seemed both rather unremarkable and at the same time somewhat ambiguous. One might make the same statement about any particular tendency. e.g.: ‘The number of men and women who have deep seated tendencies toward masturbation, or toward sexual promiscuity, or toward BDSM is not negligible; their condition is for them a trial; and they must be accepted with respect and compassion, and sensitivity.’ Of course.True love and truth, as taught by the Catholic Church.

And that is why the authentic authority in the matter produced clarifications. The problem is those clarifications get no press. While I certainly agree with the quoted statement, it has always seemed both rather unremarkable and at the same time somewhat ambiguous. The intent of the paragraph is clear. People are to be treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. No where does it teach an acceptance of the action, or sin. While I certainly agree with the quoted statement, it has always seemed both rather unremarkable and at the same time somewhat ambiguous. Exactly correct.i’m wondering what openly homosexual (or gay) means in the context of scouting…if it means what it usually means, the “i’m gay and proud of it- you should be too”, then there’s certainly an issue there at odds with Catholic teaching…
methinks the child struggling with same sex attraction in line with Church teaching isn’t openly homosexual and living with a self identity of “gay.” openly homosexual is equated with pro-homosexual behavior, which is of course contrary to Church teaching…
i am not “openly heterosexual”…i am a married man, attracted to my wife, living a life of purity in my vocation as we all are called to do…
What we need be careful of, is that accepted discrimination does not carry over to other than those positions listed by the Church. That line seems to be thin, and grey, according to some posts.Right, it clarifies and explains.
You will note the author of the letter states his view which is contrary to the Church’s position. He wants “gay” leaders and admits this policy change is only a first step. He accepts and affirms the “gay” agenda.
The links I provide make clear that not all discrimination is unjust despite the popular belief.
What we have in the OP is a letter writer at odds with Church teaching. What we need be careful of, is that accepted discrimination does not carry over to other than those positions listed by the Church. That line seems to be thin, and grey, according to some posts.
I think there are exceptions, or should be, to promoting any sexuality, one way or the other, in the scouts.i’m wondering what openly homosexual (or gay) means in the context of scouting…if it means what it usually means, the “i’m gay and proud of it- you should be too”, then there’s certainly an issue there at odds with Catholic teaching…

That must be carefully defined. Homosexuality is not equal to heterosexuality.I think there are exceptions, or should be, to promoting any sexuality, one way or the other, in the scouts.
I saw a letter, with parts, at odds with the Catholic Church teaching, while other parts are in line. What we have in the OP is a letter writer at odds with Church teaching.
Only if strictly defined and given the author’s position I cannot see how any of it is consistent with Church teaching unless we pretend he thinks homosexual desire is disordered and the acts are always evil. Which part of the letter leads us to conclude that?I saw a letter, with parts, at odds with the Catholic Church teaching, while other parts are in line.
No one said they were ‘equal.’ What was stated was, promoting, either, homosexuality or heterosexuality has no place in scouting. Or is promoting heterosexual promiscuity an acceptable teaching? That must be carefully defined. Homosexuality is not equal to heterosexuality.
