The new policy says they cannot be denied membership on the basis of orientation “alone.” This still leaves room for a troop to deny membership to an “open or avowed” homosexual not simply on the basis of their orientation but on the basis of their behavior.

In practice, it seems that not much will be different with this policy change.

On the contrary, we have the realization that God is love rather than some antiquated distortion of so-called morality. Centuries ago, gays were hanged. Muslims still do that in places like Iran and praise Allah while murdering God’s creation. For some Christians to be in kinship with savagery is a grievous sin.

Yes. Being Lutheran, you would have different doctrines and mores from those of Catholics. I am also aware there are branches of Lutheranism that do not agree on doctinres and mores. Regardless, are you truly comparing the Catholic Church to Islamists who hang homosexuals while praising Allah? Seriously?

Here’s what happened in Canada:

“In 1998, Canadian Scouts (CS) decided to allow females, atheists, agnostics, homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals to join the CS. In 1999, they approved the establishment of an all-homosexual troop, which now marches in Canada’s “gay pride” parades. Within five years, scouting membership dropped over 50 percent. Many scouting camps and offices were closed, and staff was laid off.”

The magic word that changes things is “transsexual” - and there was (is still?) a recent controversy over a 6 year old “boy - now ‘girl’ per dress and _? access to the girls bathroom at school”. The subject of which was addressed on a CAF thread.

Of course it wasn’t the 6 year old that initiated complaints with the school for its completely sensible and LONGstanding rules concerning different bathrooms for boys and girls.

If THAT can get run or even serious consideration … I suppose even the theoretically proposed problem here is not out of the realm of possibility. Or is that PROBABILITY?

I have a feeling the numbers of the Boy Scouts will take a steep decline in the coming years.

The Gay Rights movement is just a destructive force aimed at all the traditional institutions. The Scouts have really been under the gun since the Supreme Court ruled in their favor, and now they have surrendered to pressure from the national elites. Pressure on the Church also to go along will continue to mount.

On My Honor is an anti-homosexual political organization setup by a politician to promote his particular type of anti-homosexual theology and agenda. I really question his moral founding and I suspect it is anti-person rather than anti-sin. Anyway, it isn’t a Catholic organization. They are backed by the FRC (also not a Catholic organization, more of an Evangelical Protestant organization.)

My advice is to follow the directions of your bishop or archbishop and don’t join a youth organization primarily setup to be “anti-homosexual” whatever that is.

That seems to be the crux of many people’s belief. They have come to believe that same sex attraction is congenital either due to personality or genetics. Others suggest it’s learned behavior and environment. But, there is another factor at work here that is not being discussed. SSA is a spiritual attack upon an individual… especially in young people… and is geared towards convincing them to accept and choose homosexual behavior.

In many of these discussions, we loose the perspective of who the victim is. A child that is being spiritually attacked in this manner is a victim of those forces (Satan and Humans) that are constantly at work to encourage them to eventually choose homosexual behavior (a mortal sin). While, SSA may not be a sin, those forces shaping the personal image of being SSA are not benevolent to the person affected by it.

The Catholic Church has been viewed as a lot of negative things, from the first Christians on down to our present day. So you’re hardly the first to come to this conclusion. I think it was Cardinal George who said (and I’m paraphrasing) “I expect to die in bed. My successor will die in prison. His successor will die as a martyr.” But one doesn’t have to be a cardinal to see how anti-Catholic (thus anti-Christian) much of this society is becoming.

And the Catholic Church does not hold that God punishes a person by making him/her gay. Before announcing what you think Catholic doctrine is, it might be helpful to study it first.

Maybe all this has to do with arrested development. People don’t seem to be growing up until they are in their thirties. Maybe it is something in the water: estrogene/esterone inbalances or something. Jung speculated that in an urbanized enviroment traditonal gender roles got confused.

It is a colloquialism for “homosexual person” that has entered into standard usage. Check the CCC for a definition of “homosexual person”. I use gay in the same way the CCC uses “homosexual person.”

It is a colloquialism that also refers to someone who is actively engaged in an homosexual lifestyle, so it is a poor term to use. Especially, if you want to make the specious argument that all we are talking about is the sexual desire and not the acts.

Thanks for the information. Our grandson is a Boy Scout. I’ll pass this along to my daughter and son-in-law who is a Scout Leader. They and their friends, other scout families are all very concerned about what is going on.

According to the CDC in 2010 20% of gay men were HIV positive. I certainly hope that number has come down. The good side of this (if there is one.) if that the young men probably will not adopt the gay lifestyle that causes the spread of disease. The principles of the Boy Scouts are contrary to that lifestyle. More likely he will practice chastity or have a monogamous relationship when he gets older.
