Should Catholics boycott Disney (vidoes, anything with Disney logos…)?
I agree with the above posts regarding abortion and porno! But consider this also; Walt Disney had to have been a twisted individual, I have always thought that since my youth! Who invites little children to a movie like “Bambi” and when he has a captive audience of seven year olds let’s them watch Bambi’s mom get blown away…way to go Walt ! Oh and don’t even get me started on what that weirdo did to “Old Yeller” I believe in all my heart that in his little cubby hole in Kansas City when he first started out he came up with the idea of Mickey Mouse after feeding poor Mickey some mouse poison.

I completely agree with you, James. And I’ll just add that Disney did not “steal” (that being the implication) classic fairy tales and children’s stories. Rather, he wanted to bring them to visual life through the medium of film. His Pinocchio is a masterpiece and his Snow White a classic. Later attempts, such as The Little Mermaid actually homogenized the story which was one of self-sacrifice into a mere love story. But, whether the films were true to the original material or not, classics or forgettable, when Disney himself was doing them they were solid family entertainment that didn’t flinch at reality for the sake of political correctness, which is more than can be said for most children’s films these days.I will be the first lone voice of dissent. Mike says that it is cruel, to bring in children to a movie and make them watch while Bambis mother is killed or the boy in Old Yeller kill his own dog. I feel these are morality tales Bambi must face the real world and grow up. The boy must also face reality in all it ugliness and kill his own, diseased dog. How many of you have taken your kids to see Star Wars? Or have seen them as children? Luke came home to find the only “parents” he knew, dead. Only their charred bones left. Then watches the very next father figure in his life cut down in battle. Or Leia having to watch as her home planet and all its inhabitants completely blown away. Anakin finding his mother just as she dies. I could go on with other kids movies as well. Tragedy is part of life. Not everyone who watches these movies is irreparably damaged. Read the original Grimm tales not the sanitized versions. The ones our parents and grandparents read. Not pretty. I’m done, let the flogging begin.
James
I was with a 5 year old boy once, took him to see Bambi. When we came out of the theater he ran around shouting, “BANG-BANG-BANG I’m the guy that shot Bambi’s mom!” True story …I agree with the above posts regarding abortion and porno! It sounds to me like you have a normal boy there, bless him! There’s nothing wrong with having a martial spirit ala Reepicheep the Valiant, but it has to be directed into the proper channels, which is our job as parents, teachers, and spiritual authorities, wouldn’t you agree?I was with a 5 year old boy once, took him to see Bambi. Old Yeller had rabbis, he had to be put down. What else are we gonna do?
I think ol’ Walk was a pretty good guy. After he died his corporation when a wee wacky that’s true.

(edited)I am disturbed by much of the content in almost all typical Disney films. Almost all have some instance of a parent dying and situations of separation from parents. Also, the villains are so overly horrific- like Jafar from Alladin or Ursula from Little Mermaid.
I don’t think Disney has the exclusive on horrific villans. Think about the Abominable Snowman in Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer. That thing scared me out of my skin when I was a kid; still does! Over the last couple of years around Christmas, someone put that thing on the market as a stuffed creature! Who would want to give that to a kid??!

They may not be exclusive to the films, but my point was that the scenes involving them go too far. I’m of course not saying that this doesn’t happen in non-Disney films, but this thread’s topic has to do with Disney, so that’s what I referred to.(edited)I am disturbed by much of the content in almost all typical Disney films. I don’t think disturbing images are appropriate for age groups that they are marketed to.
I also found that Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts was tasteless with her “off with his head” antics. This was especially poignant when Disney decided to air the cartoon movie on its network during the time when our troops were being beheaded. I was so disgusted.

I would be disgusted with that too, but that is an issue to be taken up with the network. Have you written them a letter about it?MomTo2:![]()

Change isn’t going to happen at all if we don’t make our voices heard, but it also won’t happen over night. But it won’t happen at all if we remain silent. This forum alone boasts over 27,000+ members…that can make a mighty loud noise! Something to think about.
I don’t believe in Las Vegas as a “family vacation spot”. We stopped there on our way to California from Colorado. We were walking over to see the water display at the Belliago, and while I support the right of these people to hand out a sort of trading card with skimpily dressed women on them to adults (some “adults” like that sort of thing–not me), I totally object them handing them to my minor son (he was 14 at the time and didn’t look old enough to be mistaken for an adult). Fortunately, I taught him well, and he just tossed it at the nearest trash can.Now if you want to discuss sick vacation spots, let’s discuss Las Vegas for a family vacation. I find that actually horrible. I can’t imagine bringing my children to learn how to gamble. Yet many families see no harm. Go figure.
