Liam has been one of my favorite actors for many years. I read earlier this year he was contemplating converting to Islam and now participating in this terrible ad-I am losing respect for him. I do not know if he was brought up Catholic or what religion his wife was. I don’t think Islam supports abortion. Islam does not support same sex attraction which he probably gives a thumbs up to since Ireland approved SS marriage. I guess he sees abortion as the last hurdle to jump to free women from archaic laws with no thoughts to the rights of the unborn.

Though I appreciate Amnesty’s work on human right issues such as opposing death penalty and torture, I do not agree with their pro-abortion agenda and I think that ad is terrible propaganda.

That was truly terrible to watch and listen to, given its real anti-Catholic message. In regards to this thread, I don’t believe it will do any good to boycott Liam Neeson, but rather to respond directly to the message that he and the producers of this ad have made.
I believe the effective way to do this is for the Irish to come together and pray the rosary as a positive and holy response to the ad’s claim that “Ireland doesn’t have to be chained to its past”.
This will in fact spread the message that the Church in Ireland is not only the past, but also the present and future. If the Catholics of Ireland do not stand as witnesses to their great faith and keep it indoors then the ads message will be exactly where the nation will be headed.
I will pray to Our Lady for Ireland and for the world and I invite you all as well

I havent seen the ad yet but Liam Neeson was a very good Catholic man. He even came out in EWTN several times. Life has brought this man lots of burdens, trials and problems starting with the death of his wife… This man needs our prayers not insults and criticism…
Let us pray for him and all other Catholics who have felt the heavy burden and problems of life. May they continue in this journey called life and may they continue to trust God despite all the hardship they have experience… In Jesus name we pray AMEN

What does it mean to boycott an actor? As it is, I do not materially support him. Even so, I shall be happy to speak out against his pro-abortion message if the subject comes up in conversation.

I used to think he had been raised Catholic and I had much respect for him. I do not know much about his early life, but I believe he was very much in love with his wife and a proud family man. The sudden death of his wife has probably left him angry, confused and losing some of his foundation. As someone who has experienced extreme losses myself, I know you question so many things. I have not watched the ad yet, but I wish he wouldn’t have done this ad.

Thank you for this. It’s easier and more satisfying for me to criticize an actor, but prayer is really the most effective and loving response we can have. Thank you for reminding me of that. God bless you.

Yes both of you are right and its heartening to read your responses. I don’t agree with him on the subject but he has been through a lot. And he has my best wishes and prayers that he’ll soften back up after God and time work on him a bit.

yes…this actor was once a good catholic man and he has been through a lot starting with the sudden loss of his wife. Just 2 months ago, a news article published a picture of him looking so sick and thin you can hardly recognize him…

Let’s forgive him and invite him back into the Church. I don’t know if boycotting his movies is such a good idea, because a movie is made by more than one man, and what if he happens to be part of a movie with a good message? I like the idea of asking for Our Lady of Knock’s intercession for him, for all Irish Catholics and Ireland.
All I can say is I’m baffled by his apparent antagonism to the faith of his fathers. The devil has attacked Liam Neeson full bore and seems to be winning in spades.

Boycott what? Episode 1: The Phantom Menace? I boycotted that years ago as soon as Jar Jar Binks appeared in it…
Liam Neeson has a made a few really good films and alot of ****. Schindler’s List and Darkman(a cult superhero classic) are my two favourites. Although I joked about it above I actually enjoy The Phantom Menace.
I have no intention of boycotting his past films, it would be mad to boycott Schindler’s List just because he played the lead. But I know he’s not really producing his best work as an actor anymore so I don’t watch his films anymore anyway. The last I saw was 2005’s Batman Begins.
To a degree, films shouldn’t be the victim of the Actor’s private views or life. For example I still watch and enjoy the Mission Impossible films even though I lost all respect for Tom Cruise as an individual the moment he “jumped the couch”.

Rob Roy, Michael Collins and Gangs of New York were my 3 Favorite Films of his. I had forgotten he was in Schindler’s List which was another favorite. I was okay with the first Taken, but I don’t think two sequels were needed. He is still good at the craft of acting, but I think good scripts are hard to come by in Hollywood these days so boycotting his films won’t be hard.
I think he makes movies these days just to keep the money coming in.
