As I did last year and again this year I’m asking all here to boycott the Oscars. Last year the Academy wanted to reward movies like “Kinsley”, (a movie about a pervert) and “Vera Drake”, (a movie about an abortionist). This year the celebrated child of Hollywood is “Brokeback Mountain”, (gay cowboys). I’m not saying all Hollywood is all bad, but did (Narnia) receive any nominations? I beleive it was one if not the highest grossing film of the year as was “The Passion” the previous year. I also know that the award is not for top grossing movies but come on they can’t ignore them either. Anyway it just a night for narcissistic people to get together to make themselves fell better about what they have done. To quote from Scorsese’s “The Aviator”, Howard Hughes (Dicaprio) tells Kathrine Hepburn (Blanchett); "for God’s sake Kate your an actor nothing more.

I shun the Oscar. It runs by a bunch of biased idiots. Their nominations are nothing to get hype about. I bet they will pick Brokeback as THE movie of the year. Let the fools watch their show. I got better thing to do…

I have not watched it in years. And I rarely watch movies any more. The whole Hollywood scene is disgusting with everyone having babies out of wedlock, serial marriages and the like. And the movies are mostly disgusting with foul language, sex etc. Very little worth watching. And what other profession needs to have all the hoopla to pat themselves on the back about how gorgeous and talented they are. I’ll be watching Andy Griffith re-runs, thank you.

I heard that 3 of the movies nominated have either homosexual main characters or a main character with a gender identity problem. That was apparently the “hot theme” this year.

Just regular run of the mill folks.

I didn’t realize the oscars were entertaining enough that people watched them in the first place.

I don’t watch them anyways but if I happen to flip through the channels and they are on, believe me, I’ll keep right on going 🙂

I love the Oscars. Yea, they are biased, but still enjoyable. Narnia, is a movie focused for children, (even though adults saw it), just like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Usually, movies like that, aren’t nominated. Although, Pirates of the Caribbean was, it was only for an actor.

Ya, the Oscars still rule anyway.

PS. I ADORE The Aviator.

It’s been a long while since I watched the Oscars.

And almost as long since I have gone to two movies in the same year.

Is it a boycott if you didn’t watch them in the first place  😃

The Oscars nearly won me back by awarding all 11 of its nominations to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. I was in 7th heaven that night, and my husband had the bruises to prove it. 😛

At one time the academy awarded films like The Ten Commandments or Ghandi and other worthy topics, but now it’s all PC nonsense and tripe. Needless to say, I won’t be watching this year or any time soon unless and until they stop trying to push repulsive agendas down our throats.

Who went to see any of the nominated films this year except a bunch of elitist snobs, anyway? And what about truly good films like I Walk the Line? Except for one nomination for best actress it was completely ignored.

Nope. They’ve lost me. As Louis B. Meyer once so aptly put it, “If you want to send a message use Western Union.” Except for films like LOTR and Narnia and few other true classics, a very few family films, and Pixar animations, nothing much of any note has come out of the film industry for years, sad to say.

I cannot boycott the Oscars.😦

I have never watched them in the first place:p

It’s easy to boycott the Oscars since I don’t have a tv or care to have one. Besides, being on a limited budget, I wouldn’t even want to go to movies, even if I could afford them!

**I recently read an article that said that movie goers want Hollywood to be more “realistic”, with movies like “Brokeback Mountain” being one of those kind of movies. I’ll try to find the link after the post.

Anywhoo, why would anyone want movies to be more “realistic”? If I want real, I’ll watch a documentary. Movies are for escapism. If you want real, such as “Big Brother”, “Fear Factor”, “Survivor” (yes, cited as realistic), then watch tv for free. Or better yet, how about living your own life?

Leave me with “Sound of Music”, “Gone With the Wind”, “Pride and Prejudice”, Narnia and such. When I want real, I’ll save the six bucks and go to the park with a banana split.**

New generations of moviegoers were raised on reality television - and their very own hand-held cameras, says Chad Hartigan, box office analyst for Reelsource.com. “People want things that remind them of their own lives and tell them about other people’s real lives,” he says.

My bad, Survivor and other “reality” shows were not mentioned, just implied…**

If this is true, then why were the biggest box office draws of the last few years The Passion, LOTR, Narnia, King Kong, Harry Potter, etc. Seems more like people want to be entertained and find truth in *mythological settings more than in so-called “reality” movies.

*And yes, I know The Passion isn’t a myth in the sense of not being true. By mythological I mean stories that tell the truth from a spiritual basis and/or truth told via fantasy which tell us the truth in a hidden way. 😉

It would seem that the " Oscars " no longer honor films and actors but now honor agendas. They should be referred to as the agenda awards.

*To some, Oscar night - and the movies it celebrates - has become a Rorschach test for a self-absorbed industry out of touch with mainstream tastes. *

I think this is so true, especially in the last few years.

I never watch these type of award shows anymore, since all the movies that are nominated are either movies that I’ve never heard of or movies that don’t appeal to me. 😛 I’ve been wondering why the most popular movies, such as Harry Potter or Narnia, are never nominated. 😦
