I shun the Oscar. It runs by a bunch of biased idiots. Their nominations are nothing to get hype about. I bet they will pick Brokeback as THE movie of the year. Let the fools watch their show. I got better thing to do…
I don’t think I would watch them if Michael Landon came back to life and was up for a nomination.

Brokeback for 8 nominations?

Not meaning to sound like a bad Christian, but those are deserved. The acting was super and the direction impeccable. The movie was also really sad.

anything less entertaining than a movie about a life like mine would be hard to imagine, and I don’t need to pay 8 bucks, eat stale popcorn and fizzless soda sitting in a dirty seat with my feet stuck to the floor while people’s kids run all over the place in order to look at a reflection of my life, Most other people’s daily lives are boring, too, which is why they are out at the movies looking for entertainment and escape.

I don’t know, Puzzleannie…knowing your job…it might be entertaining after all 😃 😉

I’ll be watching and rooting for my favorites and booing for those I dont like if they win. Great TV!

Pizza Hut is on “speed dial” and the Rootbeer will be on ice!

Oscars RULE! Hollywood Rawks! Movies are AWESOME!

I get so tense and I dont even have a personal stake in it! We love it at my house! Goldenglobes & Oscars are for us what the Playoffs & Superbowl are for sportfans! 👍

J.R.:
As I did last year and again this year I’m asking all here to boycott the Oscars. Last year the Academy wanted to reward movies like “Kinsley”, (a movie about a pervert) and “Vera Drake”, (a movie about an abortionist). This year the celebrated child of Hollywood is “Brokeback Mountain”, (gay cowboys). I’m not saying all Hollywood is all bad, but did (Narnia) receive any nominations? I beleive it was one if not the highest grossing film of the year as was “The Passion” the previous year. I also know that the award is not for top grossing movies but come on they can’t ignore them either. Anyway it just a night for narcissistic people to get together to make themselves fell better about what they have done. To quote from Scorsese’s “The Aviator”, Howard Hughes (Dicaprio) tells Kathrine Hepburn (Blanchett); "for God’s sake Kate your an actor nothing more.
I agree 100% If I never have to view anything from Hollywood again it will be fine with me.

Don’t worry about boycotting the Oscar. Nobody watches this show anyway. At least, that is what I heard from NPR. The rating for the Oscar is horrible.

**The rating have been bad for quite a while. But I have to admit, I do love watching the pre-Oscar shows. If only I had cable to watch Joan Rivers. I LOVE the way she cuts down some stars. I know it’s un-Christian of me, but I have always loved the way she made jokes about “stars”.

Also agree with another poster. A lot of movies being nominated are limited release in NY/LA which won’t get widespread release unless they win an Oscar.**

The Oscars became irrelevant a long time ago. It is just the elite voting for the elite.

I do not watch any of the award shows, but I think the ones that people like us vote for are more popular.

I love film as an art medium and thoroughly enjoy movies.

I can’t stand the Hollywood scene, the celebrity worship, the Oscars make me ill. I never watch award shows.

I can respect those in the industry for their talent and art, but I have no interest in what they are wearing, whom they are dating. I think it gets in the way of enjoying a film to know too much about an actor. I usually can’t stand listening to actors talk about their films. Occasionally I catch an interview where the actor is grounded in reality, enjoys their job, and has something intelligent to say.

The funniest interview I think I have seen was Drew Barrymore talking about the first Charlies Angels movie and she said something to the effect that "It was so amazing to do a movie about such an “iconoclastic " thing like Charlie’s Angels!.. I mean Charlie’s Angels is so iconoclastic!”

I think she was trying to say that Charlie’s Angels is a cutural icon… not that their mission was to go out and demolish statues or icons.

Too funny.

No, I won’t we watching the Oscars, because I could’t give a rats. They rarely choose the movies i like anyway.

“I’d like to thank the Academy…” :crying: Boo Hoo! No thanks!

** Or better yet, how about living your own life?**

Leave me with “Sound of Music”, “Gone With the Wind”, “Pride and Prejudice”, Narnia and such. When I want real, I’ll save the six bucks and go to the park with a banana split.

OOOhhh I want a banana split!!!

Narnia wasn’t half as good as Brokeback. You don’t care about propaganda, you just want it to be your propaganda.

It is ridiculous that all of these people calling themselves even-minded can sit and badmouth an amazing movie like Brokeback Moutain without even seeing it, just going by assumptions. I was sort of biased toward it, sort of homophobic honestly, and when I saw it [with my wife], I was amazed. It’s truly a beautiful story.

I don’t know how some of you can brand it propaganda and still smile about it and make jokes. Let me ask you a question: Exactly how do you sleep at night with these ridiculous assumptions about everything? I’ll bet 5% of you have seen this movie, IF THAT.

How can one know that cyanide is bad for one until one tries it?

Hollywood left me, so my family and I left them to their garbage.

I was going to watch the oscars, but I have more fun things to do:
  1. Pick woodticks off of my dog.
  2. Clean the toilets
  3. Climb up on the roof and remove an oak leaf I saw there.
  4. Empty the kitty litter box.
  5. Clean bat droppings off the backside of our shutters.
  6. Do anything I can think of BESIDES watch the Oscars.

Marquette - Don’t forget to

Disinfect the doorknobs

vacuum the lint out of the telephone receivers.

😃

It would seem that the " Oscars " no longer honor films and actors but now honor agendas. They should be referred to as the agenda awards.

You hit it right on the head, Tom. A lot of times, a movie is called a “runaway hit”, and hasn’t even been seen by the general public yet. I won’t be watching the oscars, anyway.

I won’t necessarily be boycotting the Oscars because I don’t often spend time in boycotts. But then again I’ve never even watched the Oscars in my lifetime.
