Dear Brother Bishops in the US,

I am writing to remind you of the sacred mandate you were given on the day of your episcopal ordination: to lead the flock to Christ. Meditate on Proverbs 9:10: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom! Do not behave like frightened sheep, but as courageous shepherds. Do not be afraid of standing up and doing the right thing for the victims, for the faithful and for your own salvation. The Lord will render to every one of us according to our actions and omissions.

I am fasting and praying for you.

Arch. Carlo Maria Viganò
Your former Apostolic Nuncio

I don’t expect to see any controversy or heat on this thread…

I just say stop using and blaming the Pope and passing over other bishops and formal nuncio.

And the need to hide may have little if anything to do with this issues. Now it starts making sense to me…
" Breaking" there is nothing.

He has to pay what he owes to his own brother.
A couple of millions. Old story.
That is the reason why he is hiding for me… Blame it on me,nobody has told me anything,I will take the blame if I am wrong, but it makes sense to me now.
He may very well be hiding from Italian Justice.
I do not hesitate for one second that the Pope has nothing to do with all this. Not for one second.
The Civil Tribunal of Milan has condemned him to pay. His brother is disabled. Old inheritance dispute. He knew it would happen long before August .
Come out to the open and tell the truth. Stop sending darts in letters And do not use the Pope.

@graciew Do you have a source for this story?

Yes. If you do not mind google translate, the decision of the Civil Tribunal of Milan and that dispute are here:

Thanks for the articles! Where’s your source that he’s refusing to pay? Or evidence that this is the reason why he’s on the run?

You are welcome.
I wrote very clearly that that was on me.
As about your question,he has already refused to pay. And more. That is why it had to be taken to Justice.
The dispute isn’t new,the story either. The decision of the Tribunal is.
Nothing logical explains why he is hiding.
And any person who knows someone has a risk or threat to life would or should report it. Why didn t anyone report that he is in danger to the police? They publish his " messages" and what about his person?
People use people and that isn t good.

This is a link to an article on the matter in english. It also talks about the feud between Archbishop Vigano and his siblings over inheritance (in courts since about 2012) in real estate and in cash. His brother and sister accused him (Archbishop Vigano) of cheating them of their share of inheritance.
P.S. Archbishop Vigano apparently settled his sister in cash in 2014 and she dropped the lawsuit against him.

Odd that (Jesuit) America Magazine is so extremely interested in an old, prolonged intra family disagreement over in Italy. This is really, REALLY, far removed from their usual commentary.

Perhaps a special request…

Perhaps a special request…
No… why a special request? .this was part of a story related to M. Viganó.
It may not have made it to CAF but it was known. . Now the Civil Court has condemned him.
And just in case the " detail"…is forgotten,M.Vigano has asked for a Pope’s resignation…no less. That one really sounds like a special? request. And from an unknown location.
Fair play.

All is not fair play.

Hit pieces by either side are not OK.

This is not war.

It is unjust and culmany to impune anyone’s motives or say they are lying without proof.

I wonder if any of the inaction at any level could be explained by the Sacramental seal of Confession. Or perhaps an misguided belief in the repentance of the perpatrators.

In any case the way things are handled needs to change.

And his financial situation has no relevance to the veracity of his allegations.

Conservative sources, such as Fr Z’s blog, have implied that +Vigano is in hiding for fear of the Vatican and/or its allies… you don’t see any of them printing this alternative possibility.

Fr Z has never mentioned “The Vatican” as the group who might retaliate. That statement is calumny.

If you want to speculate who he implies, the Vatican would not be the most likely candidate.

It is amazing to me that Catholics are so easily making statements that they will have to answer for, to Christ himself.

“The Vatican and/or its allies” is what I said.
Who else am I suppose to infer? You’ve made a serious accusation of calumny against me… so at least do me the courtesy of explaining who, if not allies of the Vatican , would want to assassinate an archbishop for speaking against the Pope?

Look…if there is anything that serious involved and real, those who publish his letters should do something serious: report it to the Police.
There are persons with zero resources whose lives are in daily danger just for existing.
I believe in our priests and Bishops and I particularly pray for those in war zones.
And everyday defenseless people.
