Eternal rest grant him, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul,
And the souls of all the faithful departed, Through the mercy of God
Rest in peace.
Amen.

Praying for his soul and for comfort for his diocese and loved ones.

Praying for Bishop Morlino’s repose and for his diocese.

Bishop Morlino was a fine Bishop to his people!

Praying for the repose of his soul. He was a great bishop in Madison. Vocations exploded in his diocese after he took over thanks to his steadfast traditionalism and doctrinal orthodoxy. He will be sorely missed.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

I just read in a comment on Fr. Z’s blog that an administrator was elected for the diocese:

I don’t know anything about this person but he was elected unanimously and he is apparently supported by most in the diocese to be appointed as the next bishop. But you are probably right to be concerned about who will succeed him; the two U.S. Bishops who will get the most say are Cardinals Wuerl and Cupich, and knowing in what low regard Bishops like Bishop Morlino are held in Rome these days, it will probably be someone of a wildly different disposition, unfortunately.

That seems pretty standard to me. Every diocese has a group of priests that elect an administrator when the see becomes vacant. The Vicar General is generally the natural choice.

Maybe they’ll get Bishop Barron. I feel like that would be a good fit. It may be some time, though, before a successor is chosen. U.S. appointments have basically been at a stand still since the summer scandals broke. And this was not a vacancy that they were planning to fill for another 3+ years, so I doubt any work had been done on who Morlino’s replacement might be.

Raymond Arroyo commented on this news on World Over yesterday and ran some replays of interviews with Bishop Morlino.
