On November 17-19, 2014, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will host a colloquium in Vatican City, in cooperation with the Pontifical Council for the Family, the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, on the subject of the Complementarity of Man and Woman in Marriage. It is a global, interreligious meeting featuring representatives from 14 religious traditions and 23 countries. The colloquium will be opened by Pope Francis.

I notice the article also says this:

“Topics range from the beauty of the union between the man and the woman, to the** loss of confidence in marital permanence**, to the cultural and economic woes that follow upon the disappearance of marriage.”

I wonder if the communion issue will be addressed at all?

VATICAN CITY (CNS) – A month after closing a Synod of Bishops on the family stirred by controversy over divorce, same-sex unions and other nonmarital relationships, Pope Francis will open an interreligious conference dedicated to traditional marriage.

The Vatican-sponsored gathering, on the “Complementarity of Man and Woman,” will take place Nov. 17-19 and feature more than 30 speakers representing 23 countries and various Christian churches, as well as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Taoism and Sikhism.

The conference will aim to “examine and propose anew the beauty of the relationship between the man and the woman, in order to support and reinvigorate marriage and family life for the flourishing of human society,” according to organizers.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia and the Rev. Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church in California, will be among the participants.

Other Americans at the conference will include Russell D. Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention; Henry B. Eyring, president and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and Mercy Sister Prudence Allen, former chair of the philosophy department at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver, whom Pope Francis named to the International Theological Commission in September.

I think the greatest definition of marriage is, one man, one woman for life and before God

The only form of marriage that religion can defend, is when it is before God. If God is left out of the equation, then lawyers and politicians are free to make their own rules.

It’s not just about defending marriage. It is also about proclaiming the Truth of Jesus Christ and His Church. The Church is still in the business of saving souls.

My guess is the Communion issue will NOT be addressed since it is an inter-religion conference. However, the sin issue of homosexuality SHOULD be addressed. God created man and woman to be husband and wife that is called marriage. Actually, there is no such a thing called “traditional” marriage. There is only marriage between a man and a woman. Other than the union of a man and a woman, there is nothing even get close to a “marriage”. I hope to see marriage is clearly discussed and defined. That hopefully will be helpful.

There wasn’t any need for proof in the first place. The Holy Father is an orthodox son of Mother Church.

That being said, those who have been accusing him of being an “evil kermmunist lib-err-ul” will simply dismiss this out of hand, as they have with other examples where the Pope stands up for Church Truth.
 
The Church really has no need whatsoever for the government to be involved in marriage.

Government must needs stay out of the affairs of the Church. In fact, it might be said that the best solution to gay “marriage” being pushed is to abolish state recognition of marriage.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and unto God what is God’s. Marriage clearly is of God, so why are we involving Caesar?

A conference to explain why marriage is between a man and a woman? That’s a good thing.

At the same time it seems a sad commentary on the irrationality of the age in which we live, that that there is a perceived need to have to explain why there are men and women, and why they are sexually complementary.

A few decades ago, the announcement of such a conference title would have elicited comments of “well, duh!”
 
Chesterton wrote a now classic series of articles.called ‘My Six Conversions’ giving the occasions that he would have become Catholic if he hadn’t already been one. This seems to be one such, where the world has gone so completely insane that it becomes necessary to explain why marriage is what it is.
Francis is also responding quickly to make sure that the nonsense published after the relatio at the synod doesn't stay in the air as some sort of possibility, and doing it wisely by showing that the Church can't change what God Himself engraved in human nature.

Except marriage is a natural institution, a social institution recognizing and protecting a natural union. Lawyers and politicians have no right messing around with it than they do messing around with our very reality.
