Oh, heavens. Trump is doing just fine on that score without any assistance.
I find such a flippant response to a well-reasoned post quite disrespectful. At least give some more acknowledgement to someone else’s effort to have a discussion.

Because no one arguing with her is being flippant at all

It undermines the Office of Presidency. Ronald Reagan was my favorite president, and their are times that I would have loved to hear what he thought about what was going on in the country.

However, I always felt (even as a child) that a former President must keep his criticism of the current President private. He can share it privately with people, but must not express it publicly.

Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Clinton, & esp George W. Bush were all great, recent examples of this.

George Washington was also a great example, as when his 2nd term was up, he retired.

And even though John Adams & Thomas Jefferson were political enemies, they kept quiet about their successors, even in their old age as they wrote each other letters. They would address the changes they didn’t like to eachother, but didn’t express them publicly to the American public.

George W. Bush talked about this once in Japan, where former Presidents become part of a senior group of legislators or council or something. The President’s job is very difficult as it is, Presidents don’t need former Presidents casting grenades.

NOTE: I would have been appalled if George W. Bush did that to Obama. And if Hillary won, I would have been appalled if any former President did it to her.

It would be no different than if a abdicated King of a nation spoke in dissent against a current king, or if Pope Benedict XVI spoke out in dissent against Pope Francis.

It can’t happen because it hurts the Office of the Presidency.

There are plenty of opposition to Trump, out of respect for the Office of the Presidency, Obama doesn’t have to weigh in. By duing so, he actually hurts the Presidency of future Presidents.

God Bless
They are hoping he will be impeached - like yesterday! No, seriously. They want to see him impeached by Easter if possible. Then they will start criticizing Pence. Then he will be impeached and it will be Ryan. Then he will be impeached…and on and on and on until they get a democrat back in the White House!

He was only inaugurated 10 days ago.
Yes! The last 10 days have been…breathtaking. For his supports, they’ve been positive. For those concerned about his presidency, they’ve been terrifying.

Phil wasn’t. And that justifies her how, exactly?
I didn’t say it does. I’m just tired of everyone policing those they don’t agree with and ignoring the same infractions by those on their own side. This sub forum has become incredibly partisan and hostile.

I didn’t mean my post to be disrespectful. But it was and is my response to your “well-reasoned post.”

Grace,
If he were in the process of being impeached and every single Republican Senator was in favor of impeachment, I still would not want to hear from an ex-President.

An ex-President should NEVER publicly say a single negative thing about a current President.

This is not a political position. I voted for Obama, twice to my own dismay. But it’s not about politics. It’s simple. No ex-President should ever speak about a current President.

When Trump is out of office, if he speaks out about the next President (Republican or Democrat) I will be furious.

I also believe that current & former Presidents not seeking reelection, should never campaign against another. I’m fine if they speak in favor of someone, but not against another.

God Bless

Regarding Reagan, remember the George H W Bush followed him, and he was Reagan’s VP, so I doubt he’d be very critical. By the time Clinton became president, Reagan was already suffering from dementia, and became more private due to the illness.

He just can’t help himself. Then again he had to sit there and smile while Trump excoriated him and all the other failed politicians at his inauguration. It was too much to expect he would not be making himself heard after such a talking down.

Fine. But George H W. Bush didn’t speak out against Clinton and both Bushes didn’t speak out about Obama. I also don’t recall Clinton speaking out against GWB. The only thing I remember Clinton doing during GWB’s term was hanging out with GHWB.
