I have read posts in the past few days, calling Malania Trump crude names, referring to our President as trash,I could go n but you get the gist.To answer your question,no,I don’t recall anything close to this kind of talk in reference to Obama or Michelle. If it has happened, those individuals would have been banned.ThT was then, this is now,I guess.
To be fair, thankfully, it’s only been a few posters responsible for most of those insults…

Absolutely, they should all unite in obedience to the civil authorities. Or was that not what you meant? 😉

Incidentially, who cares what Obama thinks any more. He is yesterday’s man.

How is it you and a select few on the forum continue to make these nasty comments with impunity?
While there were snarky comments made about Obama, from those opposed to him, none rise to the level of nastiness I have witnessed here re Trump.Sameful!
The diagnosis of Trump as manifesting malignant narcissism may not be to your liking, but it is not an original idea:

Is this nasty? The defense is that it is arguably true, with expert foundation.
Do the following comments, which you may recognize, have similar foundation?
He is a self important attention monger. He can’t help himself!
Obama is hardly a grownup.Oh I know he liked to pontificate via the Teleprompter.
HC,an exceedingly flawed and corrupt
[Obama] fomented racial angst and ,hatred of our police force.
The economy sputtered along, joblessness or underemployment persisted.
Tim Kane.Catholic in name only.
the enabler,HC
Mote, log?

“Please stop wit the alt-facts.” To quote you, dvdjs
The diagnosis of malignant narcissism is not an alt-fact, it is a clinical opinion.
Not honorable? That case is easy to make with undisputed facts. For me, three wives suffices to make the case. What Catholic finds this aspect of Trump’s life honorable?

You think that is on the same level as calling President Trump a piece of trash that we need to get rid of?Callning Melinia crude names ,I think not.

If you have issues with those comments take them to their author; don’t associate them with me. And then talk of nastiness.

The difference is jokes about Michelle Obama are lame, unprofessional and really just boring while there seems to be real serious hate directed at the current First Family.

The comments made recently about Barron Trump (who is an extreme minor) are completely unacceptable by the standards of discourse.

I don’t think any Catholics are vocally defending Trump’s private life as a matter of moral principle. In fact, I’ve only seen criticism of this from Catholics.

But one could also throw the ball into the court of the secular left and ask republicans are held to such high moral standards while liberals can seemingly do whatever they want.

When you have the likes of Charles Schumer saying the only way they will work with Trump is if he capitulates to their agenda, what can you expect? Add to that the hysteria and meltdowns by the left just because HC lost, what do you expect?
I have never seen the likes of Charles Schumer! He is something else!

I liked what Casilda said about Obama going on a long vacation with his family and visiting all the golf courses around the world! 🙂

How could they? But many seem to be oddly offended by any criticism of their leader.

Ape in heels? More hateful than boring, ISTM. Personal attacks on the first lady are just worthless. But the difference is that the disgusting things said about Michelle have no basis in fact, but the disgusting things said about Melania do.

I’m just fine with him speaking out. For many Americans, he’s been a father figure and it’s comforting to hear from him in such a volatile time.
To each his own, of course, but I cannot think of one U.S. president, right, left or otherwise, that I would categorize as a “father figure”. We are adults, not children who need a soothing and comforting voice of a past politician or leader, whether the current time is volatile or not.
It doesn’t seem to matter that traditionally, “ex” presidents used to keep their mouths closed.
Nope.
It can’t happen because it hurts the Office of the Presidency.

There are plenty of opposition to Trump, out of respect for the Office of the Presidency, Obama doesn’t have to weigh in. By duing so, he actually hurts the Presidency of future Presidents.
Exactly.
Oh, heavens. Trump is doing just fine on that score without any assistance.
It has always been viewed as inappropriate for a past U.S. President to comment negatively on an action of a current President, with the exception of perhaps something on par with a coup. Because it tends to undermine the authority of the President and further divides the Republic.

And yet, it is somehow fitting that Obama would break this solemn tradition- as he has broken many traditions of our Republic and has been one of the most unnecessarily divisive presidents we have ever had.

Whew, this prompted a lot of thoughts. Not sure I should say them. I heard once that Liberals think their opposition is immoral.

I’ve reflected a lot on this lately. I’ll fall back on Chesterton. Abolish God, and the government becomes God.

As for the story, I’m surprised it was this quick. This election has really highlighted my underestimation of Liberals. I thought it was a typical tactic of revolutionary leftism though; foment, protest, divide, revolt. As far as I’m aware, that’s the basic playbook of progressivism, or at least a popular strain of progressivism. Whether it’s witting or unwitting is a different question.

Calling out unjustified attack on Melania. Keep your prejudice at home! You are not to spew hatred for a woman just because she’s beautiful, or because she belongs to a certain profession, or because she happens to be married to someone you don’t like, or because her husband is rich.

Stop this ludicrous hatred! Melania doesn’t deserve any of it. You are polluting the forum.
