The arrests come days before the publication of two books by Italian journalists on Vatican finances based on confidential information and other documentation. The first book, Via Crucis (“Way of the Cross”) is by Gianluigi Nuzzi, who also wrote the book on the Vatileaks under Benedict XVI. The other book called Avaricia (“Avarice”) is by Emiliano Fittipaldi.

The Vatican broke the news of the arrests in a press communique on Nov. 2. It said Monsignor Lucio Angel Vallejo Balda (Spain) and Dr. Francesca Immacolata Chaouqui (Italy) were arrested after being interrogated on Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1, by Vatican judicial authorities “for taking and divulging confidential information.”

I like this comment on the article by Guillermo Reyes:
It is good to see the Vatican legal system has been reformed under Pope Francis given the dysfunction under his predecessors e.g. Vatican bank, P. Benedict XVI’s butler, Paolo Gabriele, sexual pedphile abuses committed or ignored by priests, bishops, cardinals (Bernard Law) and even Nuncios (Dominican Republic) for decades. We faithful Catholics have grown weary with scandal in the Curia.

Pope Francis has descended on the Vatican like a white dove, and given his ample experience in fighting right-wing dictators ala Guerra Succia / Proceso de Reorganización Nacional or El Proceso, and left-wing political movements, he is undeterred and unphased with his numerous accusers who do nothing but throw rocks, cowards that they are.

¡Le queremos mucho Santo Padre Francisco! ¡Estamos orando por usted y estamos luchando en nuestras comunidades para el Señor!
