Only if I regretted having gotten married in the first place, LOL. If I’d been divorced for whatever reason, I’d probably want to get rid of reminders of that first marriage. Otherwise, that’s just dumb.
Lol! I’m just going to prance about in front of all my boys, that’s enough audience for me! But it does sound like fun, dressing up and going out for dinner as you and hasikelee describe.I thought about wearing mine again for our 25th and then our 50th wedding anniversary parties. Yes, in public! With witnesses!I figure by the time I’m 47 and 72, I really won’t care what people think of me, anyway, and it would be so much fun.
Oh, I’ve restrained myself. It’s something I have been complimented on by all of the vendors I’ve worked with so far. The reception site caters and the open bar is part of the package, and it’s 85 dollars a head. No ice sculptures, and egads no ballons, I haven’t even gotten to the favors yet. The flowers quote was 2700 including delivery and set up charges, and I’m not using expensive flowers. Well, I am, but I’m using big flowers, like peonies and hydrangeas which take up more room thus actually costing less.Cake is 3.25 a slice. The problem is that we have an invite list of 260.And that’s not just people I’ve met once or twice. Well some of it is, but that’s his family. My parents have invited only family and a few close friends. I’m only inviting 12 plus guests (and 3 plus their guests are in the wedding party)She probably did what many of us do and restrained herself. Don’t invite everyone you’ve ever met, don’t think ice sculptures are necessary, don’t serve filet mingon and have an open bar, don’t give everyone an engraved bauble as a party favor, don’t have 3,000 ballons in the decor.
The reception does not have to be the best, most magical, most wonderfulest night ever, for it to be memorable. I got married in one of the most expensive cities in the country and we managed a beautiful wedding and a wonderful reception on much, much less than 20 thousand! In fact, we might still be paying for the wedding if it had cost that much!!!![]()
The dress is a symbol of the purity of the birde and the the marriage. So if you trash the dress you are symbolically trashing the sanctity of the marriage and the woman. I would be against that.I saw a story on the local 10:00 p.m. news about a new trend. Supposedly, some brides are now jumping into bodies of water, getting their gowns muddy, or ruining them in some other fashion while being photographed doing so. What on earth are they thinking?
Exactly. It seems that they have no concept of the sanctity of marriage. The dress is a symbol of the purity of the birde and the the marriage. So if you trash the dress you are symbolically trashing the sanctity of the marriage and the woman. I would be against that.
A dress is a dress - it is not a sacramental, it is not a vestment - it is a dress. Wedding dresses are not blessed, they are not required for a Sacramental marriage. The dress is a symbol of the purity of the birde and the the marriage. Sorry, I won’t be posting it. Had second thoughts. You can look up Julia’s story on Wikipedia, though.I’ll post the story of Julia Petta in the Back Fence forum.
Yes, blue was originally the color of purity for wedding dresses, but most women, whatever the level of purity would wear their best dress, which was usually dark, because of the dirt roads, frequency of washing, etc. Then rich ones decided to show off and wear white ones - “look at how rich I am. I can wear something that can only be worn once”. Nothing whatsoever do do with purity, chastity, or a sacrament. Just plain old vanity.A dress is a dress - it is not a sacramental, it is not a vestment - it is a dress. Wedding dresses are not blessed, they are not required for a Sacramental marriage.
White wedding dresses are a modern cultural trend. If you love your dress, keep it - but it those of us who do not treasure that bit of cloth should not be painted as devaluing the sanctity of marriage and our womanhood.
Now THAT is a cool idea! We have a family baptismal gown also, so no need to make one of those (and really how much of a wedding dress does that use?) But vestments!! Terrific idea!!!in that case I daydream of doing what St. Gianna did with her wedding gown…she had it made into vestments for her brothers, who were going to be priests.
Or you could make it into a *maniturgium * – That is the cloth a priest uses to wipe his hands after their annointing at ordination. Following that ceremony, the priest sets it aside until his mother’s death, when it will be placed in her hands to be buried with her.perhaps I will be blessed with sons, and perhaps I will be blessed further to have priests…in that case I daydream of doing what St. Gianna did with her wedding gown…she had it made into vestments for her brothers, who were going to be priests.
Umm… are you comfortable wearing a strapless cocktail dress (w/fishnets) in church?my mom’s dressed got water damage and it’s probably packed away in a box somewhere. No chance of me wearing it, ethier orginally or modified, although if If there is a space on it by the time we pull it out that i can cut out and use on my own dress, I will (for something old), I’m already planning on wearing my aunt’s veil (something borrowed). Of course beyond those I’m not planning on a tradition wedding gown by any means. I want a strapless white cocktail dress, something that can go with fishnets and knee high boots.
Yup. I have a long sleeve fishnet top to wear with it. Plus I’m short, a cocktail dress would go nearly to my knees, between the hem of the dress and my boots the fishnets wouldn’t be very visable.Umm… are you comfortable wearing a strapless cocktail dress (w/fishnets) in church?
Many Churches don’t allow strapless, fyi. I know ours doesn’t, not that it mattered to my fiance.Yup. I have a long sleeve fishnet top to wear with it. Plus I’m short, a cocktail dress would go nearly to my knees, between the hem of the dress and my boots the fishnets wouldn’t be very visable.
I’m pretty sure mine does…but i’m only 16 and 1/2, won’t be getting married anytime soon, I don’t even have a boyfriend! Many Churches don’t allow strapless, fyi. I know ours doesn’t, not that it mattered to my fiance.
Wow! Now there is a beautiful idea.No I would not. If I didn’t plan to keep it I would donate it. Mine was made into our daughter’s baptism gown by my MIL. Hopefully it will become a family heirloom.![]()
