The Abbey of Regina Laudis is quite a unique place. It is a cloistered Benedictine abbey in Connecticut with a traditionalist bent, and the inspiration for the 1949 film Come to the Stable. That movie starred Loretta Young and was nominated for seven Oscars.

The abbey has long had a connection to the arts, and has had a tradition of providing a place of sanctuary and healing for women who have been in the public eye. Delores Hart, a former Hollywood actress, is its abbess. I haven’t kept track of the various high profile women who have spent extended time there, but as I recall a daughter of Roald Dahl went there a year ago and this may have encouraged Laura Adshead to consider it.
