Brooklyn College Education Prof. Claims Math Is ‘White Supremacist Patriarchy’

Some asserted that objective mathematics is rooted in “white supremacist patriarchy” and white social constructs.

The debate itself was rooted in George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984 , in which citizens of a fictional totalitarian state believe that 2 plus 2 equals 5 as a result of government propaganda.

Laurie Rubel, who teaches math education at Brooklyn College, says that the idea of math being cultural neutral is a “myth,” and that asking whether 2 plus 2 equals 4 “reeks of white supremacist patriarchy.”

“Y’all must know that the idea that math is objective or neutral IS A MYTH,” she tweeted.

Spencer Bagley, a math professor at Westminster College in Pennsylvania, retweeted Rubel’s assertion.

Rochelle Gutierrez, who teaches “Sociopolitical Perspectives on Mathematics and Science Education” at the University of Illinois, responded o a tweet from a former educator claiming that the U.S. “colonizes” math.

“By now it is well known, for example, that other cultures were using the theorem we call Pythagorean, yet we still refer to it with this name. This is colonization and erasure,” the tweet from the former educator read.

Gutierrez responded with, YES! This attends to the Cultures/Histories dimension of RM (addressing Western/Eurocentric maths). And, we also want to attend to the Living Practice dimension (which is more about imagining a version that builds upon ancestral knowings, but does not yet exist)."

From years of reading trash along those lines, trust me, it’s not worth reading the line of argument or the rationalizations from defenders.

Just recently some politician was (seriously)
calling for “the abolishment of HISTORY classes in Illinois (schools)” here!!!

If that happens, why not a stupid Tweet from a confused Professor of Math Education?

By the way. You can see for yourself too, the video footage of this call to remove history teaching from political satirist Mark Dice. Or read it right on his CNN reference if you must.

Although Dice is a satirist, he didn’t have to “doctor” this video, because the left has become a parody of itself.

Which is WHY today’s proverbial Babylon Bee articles, become tomorrow’s reality-ridiculous cries from some on the left.

The reason they are so funny is we all know there is more than a grain of truth there.

away from reading her own Tweet (“snippets”) too!

This suggests to me you did not read the article when you commented on it originally. It suggests (to me at least) you had your mind made-up and worked backwards.

Naturally I disagree. (This isn’t merely a “story” dscath, but a pedagogical
exhibition (it speaks for itself) of a pervasive dictatorship of relativism worldview. And a very dangerous view at that.)

Naturally…I’m having trouble in the discourses of Matthew to find Christ saying something along the lines of., “Verily I say unto you, those who question advancements in Mathematics will find themselves gnashing teeth and kept out of the Kingdom”…Again, LOL…but, I like your style, Cath!
