Brother, just wanted to let you know that you are in my prayers. Always.

Hello brothers and sisters:

I’m happy to report that thanks to your prayers I’m feeling much better these days. I’m able to sit up for a longer period of time, about an hour at a time. It’s great to sit up without feeling seasick. I couldn’t keep my head up without feeling as if I were on a boat.

I’m still under doctor’s orders not to move around too much. I’m wearing an oxygen mask, so I look and sound like Darth Vader. And I still need help with hygiene. The doctors have said that I have 23% lung function and 42% kidney function. Those are not bad odds as far as I’m concerned. I know people who live on much less.

The brothers are driving me crazy. I’m about to put some of them up for sale. We need the money anyway. They’re like a bunch of mothers. “Don’t do this. Eat that. This is good for you. That’s bad for you. Don’t reach for that, you’ll fall. Don’t try to move without one of us in the room.” My goodness, what a bunch of drama queens. 😃

Last Sunday I made it to Holy Mass again. I was so happy to be there. I’ve missed most of Lent. One of the brothers reads the breviary for me, but it’s not the same as being in a church filled with people. Though I had to use a wheelchair, I was able to be there. That’s all that mattered to me. It was such a beautiful sermon too. I’m hoping to attend Holy Mass tomorrow as well. One of our brothers is ordained and he comes to celebrate Holy Mass at the main house. But I truly love attending mass at the local parish. There is nothing more beautiful than to see families.

Our local parish is very rich in holiness. The age range at any mass is from newborn to 100 years old. It’s an incredible parish with five priests, four deacons, three religious brothers and about 3500 families of all ages, races and ethnic origins. I just love it. There is a real excitement about liturgy. You see it in people’s eyes as they walk from the parking lot to the church. They sparkle. I call it the spark of holiness. It rejuvenates me. I’m very convinced that the family is the bedrock of the Church. The substrate of the Church is not the Vatican, but the local parish. The Vatican is just the central administration. But real holiness is blooming like an eternal springtime right before our eyes at the local parish, one person at a time.

Yes, yes, yes, there is always the few who are annoying. You all know who I mean, so why go into a list. But there is the majority who are very holy and inspiring people. When I see a grandma’ in her 80s at mass, I feel a great sense of peace. She is a sign of God’s unbroken covenant. She’s there because God found her first and has kept her in the palm of his hand. He makes the same offer to all of us. We just have to say, “Yes.”

Oops, Br. Jailer is here with a bunch of pills and something to eat. I need to get off now. Sometimes I wonder, “Who’s the real superior of this outfit.” LOL

You are in my prayers, keep me in yours. Above all, pray for children. The world that we are leaving them is no grand prize. They will need our prayers to fix what we wrecked God bless all of you.

thank-you for the update and again we are all praying for you, your health and continued strength and healing. we all love you!

Dear Brother JR,

It is wonderful to know that you are recovering and being tenderly cared for. Your brothers are going to show their love for you regardless, so just grin and bare it patiently. *I think I will add an extra prayer for Brother Gerard and the brothers nursing you, *

I hope the brothers are making proper chicken broth for you as it is the best thing to help build up your strength! If not, ask them to put all the chicken bones with the scraps of meat attached in a big pot (add a couple of bay leaf, onions and some pepper) and leave just below boiling point for at least 3 hours, strain, check the seasoning and leave to cool. If they do it correctly, the broth should become a jelly. It took scientists a few thousand years to admit that generations of women know best when it comes to the value of chicken broth.

May God bless you.
**An Old Celtic Blessing
**
May the blessing of light be on you—
light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you
and warm your heart
till it glows like a great peat fire.

thank-you for the update and again we are all praying for you, your health and continued strength and healing. we all love you!
I second this post. This place just is not the same without you. Like Paul Harvey, you usually give us the “rest of the story”.

Wishing you peace, joy, and improving health.

God bless you, dear Brother, and thank you for updating us. I was just coming here to check on word about you and saw your update of this morning.

Pay attention to Br. Jailer. He knows what is best. 👍

Glad to hear you are feeling stronger, Brother JR. I won’t dare to give you any chicken soup recipes…my cooking stinks. I pray better than I cook, and will continue to keep you in mine!

Blessings to you.

For you Brother JR

St Theresa of Avila’s Prayer
**

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you
are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite
possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing,
dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.
Amen:gopray:

And Johann Arndt’s prayer for patience and gentleness has been prayed for your brothers nursing you.
Code:
"*Bestow on them, O Lord, a genial spirit and unwearied forbearance;
a mild, loving, patient, heart;
kindly looks, pleasant cordial speech, and manners
in the exchange of daily life;
that they may give offense to none,
but as much as in lies live in charity with all men.
Amen,"*

Good Friar JR,

Remember, “superior” is itself an irony, for the superior is (like any ordinary) in service to the community, and is still bound to obedience to the community. If their voice is united, they outvote you. 🙂

Thank friar Gerard for us, as well, for his role in your recovery, as well as the other friars.

We’ll keep praying.

So happy to hear from you and your progress! Mind the “Jailer” he knows what is good for you!! Receive a big hug from all of us here.

Also praying today for the other overbearing drama jailers, and especially for you!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.Holy
Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
