Unless he has been four times a widow, for a moment let us ponder the thinking of “I am going to be the wife who makes it work!”…

Don’t be so quick to write off your brother. A few years ago, I helped a man get five annulments simultaneously, one formal and four Ligamen. He then converted to the Catholic Faith, married his 6th wife, a Catholic, in the Catholic Church and finally became a member of Pastoral Council and the Grand Knight for the KofC. So, you never know what the future holds for each of us sinners.

I have two sisters, and the three of us have gone through many periods of estrangement. All three of us have been married more than once, and that’s odd because my parents have been married for over 40 years! So I understand to some degree about this situation.

Very recently, the three of us have put down our swords and tried to talk and text. It’s been awkward, but it’s better than not talking at all, I guess. The reality is that sometimes you’ll never be close to your family.

I think it’s best to go to the wedding, or at least the reception. Just because you are trying to patch things up after a period of rough communication. But if you don’t want to go, politely tell him that you’ll be unable to attend, and expect him to be upset about it.

Sorry it’s happening to you. Praying, big big time.

A man with 5 marriages by age 45? That is pretty remarkable. It almost sounds like a reality show.

I hope this isn’t the bride’s first marriage.

It is quite possible that this dilemma will sort itself out before the wedding day.

If my brother respects me, he will understand that following by what the Catholic Church teaches is important to my husband and I.

My brother will not even speak to me as is. He was out of my life for 20+ years.

I was looking for suggestions as to how to form the correspondence.

Thank you.
Honestly, I don’t understand why you feel you need to explain yourself to him at all.

"Thank you for thinking of us, brother. Unfortunately, husband and I will be unable to attend. "

If there was a guarantee of a cookie table at the reception, I’d go. Otherwise, I’m staying at home 😒

@LivingInJMJ If you have any hope of repairing this broken relationship GO. He won’t answer calls, emails, etc? Reach out in person.

Hello.

Nothing like a good example of your well-lived life and fidelity to God by adhering to the practice of your faith for your brother. Your continued good example may yet help him. When I’m in the wrong I often rail against the truth.
