I was enrolled in the Brown Scapular some years ago and love the Carmelite Saints (St. Teresa of Avila & St. Therese in particular) but don’t really practice Carmelite spirituality. I do have Divine Intimacy by Fr. Gabriel, a few works of St. Teresa of Avila though. What is the particular charism of Carmelite spirituality?

If you are attracted to quiet prayer and listening to the Lord (contemplation) that is the charism of Carmel. That is why we study the Carmelite Doctors of the Church on prayer.

I have that book Divine Intimacy by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen as well. Great spiritual book!

You were right for the first sentence, then you went downhill from there. The rest of your statement is nonsense forged by anti-Catholic bigots and paranoid conspiracy theorists. Let’s address your concerns one by one:
  1. Clement XIV suppressed the Jesuits because he, like other European rulers, was also worried about the alleged political manipulation by the Jesuits. This ban was soon lifted by Clement’s successor Pius VII in 1814. The Society never disbanded, and they actually won many Protestant areas back to the faith in the days of the Counter-Reformation. The name of Jesus was never removed from the order. The Holy Name is the very symbol of their order, they are still known today as the Society of Jesus.
  2. Yes, the mission of the Jesuits was to win Protestants back to the faith and to defend their faith from the spread of heresy. The oath you speak of however is completely fabricated, and was probably composed by a Protestant to discredit the Jesuits and Catholicism. They became known by paranoid Protestants as spies, assasins, etc. but these were simply not true.
  3. I don’t find it surprising that Lincoln was anti-Catholic, he was after all an American Protestant in the 19th century.
Bottom line: I don’t know where you dug these lies up, but it sounds to me like you need to do more research. From a credible source please. God bless.

Welp… looks like you’ve dropped all pretense and went all-in on lies and conspiracy theory…

No pretense on my part. God is my witness, shame on you for making such a judgement of someone you dont know. I am busy making my Brown Scapula today and begin my Devotion of Reparation tomorrow. I forgive you.

Ignatius Loyola
That’s St. Ignatius Loyola.

And if what you posted is an academic article, I find it strange that I can’t find it on the internet. The roughly first half of it was from the History channel. That was my only hit on Google.

I notice you don’t provide a link.
Fairfield is a Jesuit University. If they’re so evil, how can you believe anything they say?

Not to mention blowing their own cover as a diabolical group of assassins.
