A while back one of the blogs I subscribe to had an awesome post about Brown Scapulars I thought you all might enjoy…

romancleric.blogspot.com/2007/09/what-can-brown-do-for-you.html

It is written by a nun with a whole lot of common sense. You really may enjoy reading whole thing but here is a teaser from about 1/2 way down the blog… it is about the person that asks if they can lead a immoral life and just wear a brown scapular:

*The one time you take it off to shower, you’ll slip on the soap and crack your head open. The bus that knocks you out of your shoes will knock you right out of your scapular. The flood waters that wash you away will wash the scapular off your neck. Your evil boyfriend will remove it while you sleep and murder you for your jewels. The paramedic will take it off to give you a shot of adrenaline that doesn’t work. The nursing home worker will steal it from you. The atomic blast will vaporize the Scapular one millisecond before it vaporizes you. As you tumble, end over end, down the basement stairs with no one home to hear all the thumping, your scapular will be tossed off and land right before your eyes along with you at the foot of the stairs. As the life drains from you as you lay bleeding from your head wound, you will reach pathetically for your scapular, but the cat will grab it and run out the basement window. At some point, you are going to want to throw it in the wash. When you do, you’ll drop dead.

This is so great! I love this! Thank you. I am forwarding this to several of my friends! 👍

I know this is intended to be humorous, and I have taken it in that context 😉 ; But, I’d like to share the real experience… that I had, with the Brown Scapular. Because, through it… Our Lady brought me back to the faith. As a result, I have a great love of the Brown Scapular. This truly happened to me.

I had been away from the Church and the Sacraments, for well over 10 years. I was absolutely, at my lowest point… spiritually, emotionally, mentally. I was mired in depression, sin and confusion. Basically, I was a wreck. One night (about 5 mins. after I got in bed), I lay on my side… fully awake… and I suddenly became aware of a bright light over my right shoulder. (I should mention, at this point in my life… God was the farthest thing from my mind). I was terrified. Too terrified to look up… so I just lay there, motionless. Then, I heard a voice (which I could not discern, as being male or female. It was just a voice)… but the voice said… “This is it”. My terror was so great, that I couldn’t move.

Somehow, though… I managed to get to sleep. The very next morning… I woke up, and remembered… that in the back of my nightstand drawer… there was an old, brown scapular. I put it on immediately. That was nearly 4 years ago… and except for showers, baths and the like… the scapular has not been off my neck.

Before I knew it, Our Lady had called me “Home” to the Church. Through her “Garment of Grace”, I found the courage to go to Confession, and began receiving the Sacraments again (improving my condition, drastically). And, so… I have a great love of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Brown Scapular. God bless all. 🙂

That is an awesome, uplifting story, MarieVeronica! Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂

And thank you for the funny post, BlestOne! I needed a laugh!

MarieVeronica… that was truly beautiful!

Catholic Sam… Glad you liked it!

I was wearing a brown scapular all the time until the other day, mine broke. I ordered a new one though and it should arrive soon thankfully. 🙂 I just wonder if I have to get the new one blessed or not.

Once you have the first scapular blessed, you don’t have to keep blessing any that come after that. They continue the blessing from the first. I keep extra scapulars around in case mine breaks or wears out, that way I always have a scapular to wear. I’ve become very attached to this devotional, and I would hate to be without it these days!🙂

MarieVeronica, that was a very uplifting story about how you came to believe in the power of your brown scapular!👍

I enjoy reading BlestOne’s story on the brown scapular. As well, I enjoyed MarieVeronica’s uplifting story. I, too, am a wearer of the brown scapular. I feel this piece of armor and that of the Miraculous Medal are two important pieces of armor that everyone should wear. I truely believe their is power in each, from my own personal experience.

One day perhaps, I will tell my story so that others may bear witness to the power of prayer, the rosary, the miraculous medal, and the brown scapular. I am sure most of you have a story to tell, as well. I find that so many of us are witnesses to miracles all around us on a daily basis, but we just don’t recognize them as such.

Wear the armor of the brown scapular. It is one powerful weapon against evil, and Satan despises it so. That alone is reason enough to wear it.

How do you know that you are Catholic? When you spend 5 minutes every morning untangling your scapular from your Miraculous Medal! 😃

Peace,
Linda

Mine was in such a terrible knot that I had to buy a knew one! (ARGH!!!) I just need to go to confession and bless this one (the first one wasn’t) before I can actually wear it.

Please don’t think I have no sense of humor. I do. But my panic over my mother’s death this year began the day after her funeral - when I realized she didn’t have a brown scapular on when she died. She wasn’t one to want things around her neck when she was well - and once hospitalized - I couldn’t be sure how safe / or how long they’d keep it on. There was a brown and a green one next to her bed at home when she died, and I made sure there was one present in her room when hospitalized. But while my house is filled with scapulars, statues, etc. - and I wear mine always, I didn’t think to pin it on my Mom - her last day - when I could have.

No matter the annointings - in light of the promises Our Lady made regarding this sacramental - it has caused me no end of depression for months. So, what is this nun/blog joking about? That there’s no need to wear one since it could always come off? Well, I guess there’s another one this nun can add to the list - the ones closest to you who believe in it - dumb daughters like myself - just plain didn’t think - and now, it’s too late. It’s a sobering point to ponder. And disappointing that a nun thought to joke about the subject. What order is she from? Happy New Year, sort of.
