Caution.

This person is sick. His name is Dennis Rader.

When we talk about judgment of behavior and people, this tests in in today’s time as much as anything I can think of.

He has terrorized Wichita for 30 years since his first of 10 killings around town, always sending the media and police evidence and bragging about it. He gets perverted pleasure from the act, from the media attention, everything. He confessed completely, but showed no emotions. I have avoided coverage completely until today, his sentencing hearing started today.

I watched some streaming video.

This guy is sick. I’ve never imagined something like this.

If I had a button I could push and make that man die, and be certain I would never be found out, I don’t know whether I’d push it or not. It’s hard to look at this hollow shell of a perverted human being

Turns out they tricked him into giving himself away.

This guy killed a relative of a good friend I was talking to last night, and stalked by sister-in-law after she got up in his face over his handling of a dog permit. He was the dog catcher in Park City (just north of Wichita) and parked across from her house for several hours over a period of days.

Now I’ve seen some of the actual evidence and the way this guy sits there like he has no heart, and I just am amazed. I just heard a little too much detail about what he did to a little girl. In this morning’s paper, it said that in an interview with NBC Dateline, now that he’s caught he says he “feels like a star” with all the media attention. Now I know why everybody watches. Now that I’ve seen it is really is amazing.

If you have the stomach for it, it’s running starting from 9 am Central Daylight US time (our local time here) and to me, it’s a lesson in how evil a person can be, and just sit there perfectly calm, almost bored or irritated at times it seems, but clearly has no qualms about hearing those graphic details repeated for the court and the public. In fact, based on all the things he’s said to police, it even seems he gets “gratification” even to retell the stories to the police.

It’s on here. Click on B.T.K. live.

It’s been months since I’ve watched TV, but this takes the cake. Now I don’t need to imagine if I could face “someone purely evil” straight in the face. On this video I’ve seen such a person.

I haven’t seen the video but I share your revulsion at what Rader has done. He is evil. As much as we may want him to rot in hell for what he has done, we must remember that according to our Catholic faith all sinners can repent of their sins and be forgiven. Even Rader. Thank God that he has finally been caught.

Oh, Alan, I read an article this morning with some of the details from the murders brought out at Rader’s sentencing hearing. How could any human being be so evil? Talk about selling your soul to the devil. God have mercy on us all!

And may God have mercy on him. He may face a human court without fear, he may be able to divorce himself from our human reality but, when facing God and having to explain his behaviour to Him, then he will learn the meaning of the words:

PR 21:15 When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.

We may not see it but he will.

I’m glad he was caught.

I heard some of the testimony about how he would park down the street and plan each of his “projects” looking for opportunities. What they described as his planning for a “project” was exactly what he was doing to Leeanna, my sister-in-law. She was young relative to him (maybe 30 then) and spunky, and had no problem telling a person off and apparently did him. After that, she saw him several times sitting there watching her house, just like some of his successful “projects.”

It makes me wonder whether there is a lesson here for women, that if your dog catcher or a city clerk is a jerk, don’t get up in his face over it.

Did she call the police and report him? Perhaps if she had there would have been a police report on him and he would have come to the cops attention sooner.

I don’t want to watch the video. The little bit that I heard on him frightened me very badly. THe scarest part is that he used several ruses that would probably have worked with me. Like pretending to be a policeman. WHo wouldn’t open their door to a policeman. 😦

I don’t think that the message is about getting in someone’s face. Not everyone he killed was obnoxious or threatening to him.😦

Yes, to no avail. He did it in such a way that he covered it as “doing his job” as I recall. It’s pretty hard to say a dog catcher can’t be sitting on a certain city block. He seemed to be pretty good at knowing how to keep a low enough profile that he got along this far without getting caught.

I don’t blame you. They did not air graphic photos, but just hearing these words spoken by the detectives and seeing him sit there was creepy.

I understand he spoke in court today, quoting scripture and stuff. Instead of watching today, I was actually doing useful stuff, getting some wires strung in my house before they start on the sheetrock tomorrow morning. I’m listening to interviews about the hearings, but didn’t see him speak. I suspect it will be all over the country by tomorrow.

No, there’s not much telling what looks good to such a monster. It’s just that I’ve seen her get all upset about stuff and I can believe that a dude like that would at least scope her out – could have been a turn-on or even a challenge. Maybe he never found a good entry point, maybe the fact that she had called the police saved her. I don’t know. At least she’s here and he’s caught at the moment.

Maybe it’s just as well for Rader he didn’t decide to take her on; my brother-in-law keeps several loaded guns at various places around the house. (He feels if guns for home protection are useless if they the intruder is between you and the gun.) She knew where they were, and the kids know where they are and to leave them alone.

Of course I don’t know how long he’ll last in jail. When a high-profile case (overblown; I knew some insiders) against a priest Larson here in Wichita finally got to prison, he was strangled very soon – like less than a couple weeks as I recall. Larson was a personal friend of my favorite retired priest, who sat by him at his hearings until the end. Some of the charges were true, the ones most highly publicized were totally made-up by a seemingly insane family of a kid who committed suicide. Since the kid used to work with Larson, suddenly a relative “recalled” that several months before the kid had expressed depression and recall of Larson’s molesting him. My friend knew exactly what Larson had done; he had done bad things but he had not even touched or approached that particular kid. The woman grew the thing into a media frenzy and started some kind of organization over it, I think.

I didn’t see any of his testimony, but I heard some commentary about it.

I did see interviews in court with victims’ families, and I was very impressed by their attitudes. They were asked very personal questions, like why they walked out when Rader spoke. They said in a very calm way they didn’t want to fuel his gratification, which they thought he might get from having his “last” words to them. They were very calm, realistic, and did a great job of answering the questions. A couple were really broken up or course, and most said they were relieved.

Hey, I didn’t happen to notice if my friend’s sister-in-law was among them.

Rader will write a book to gratify himself. I’ve read on yahoo.com sometime ago. perhaps that news can also be found at www.crimelibrary.com as well

the law forbids him from making any $ off anything related to this case.

I see they are considering putting some interesting restrictions on him. Like…

No writing utensils - so he cannot “draw” his favorite sick s&m/murderous scenarios

No newspapers/magazines to feed his ego.

No materials with which he could form a homemade “doll” to simulate various acts of sex/bondage.

All reading materials carefully screened and edited.
Apparantly this guy couldn’t even handle looking at a JC Penny circular without cutting out the women and children posing in underwear, pasting their images to cards and writing sick fantasies on the back of the card.
So…in prison…no advertisements to department stores!

I forgot what else they discussed, but it looks like they really could be doing their best to deprive him of his sick “hobbies” when he engaged in fantasy.

This guy is real good with rope and cords…I think he’ll wind up hanging himself.
I don’t hope he does…I just think he’ll go crazy being deprived of his fantasy world.

That’s called “Son of Sam law”, created then specifically for Son of Sam David Berkowitz. I guess that law has been ruled unconstitutional.

I don’t think Rader’s primary motive of writing a book is for money, he just likes reminding everyone that BTK still lives on.

and don’t give him a chance of telling fellow inmates he’s the BTK. a few serial killers obviously seem enjoying doing this.

I have seen in the eyes of the serial killers a darkness and void something that is not human,I have have seen the same look of someone whom I love very much under the influence of drugs.I have to wonder whether they are demonically oppressed,or obsessed, the eyes there is something there that disturbs my soul:eek: :nope:
