Regarding your reply, … -----> 🍿

I know, I know… I’ve finally figured it out!!!

You are really an undercover travel agent for Kashmir… Ha, got you pegged!!! 😃
Isn’t it wonderful for us to know a travel agent who can arrange our trip to the tomb of Jesus? He can give us big discounts you know. The scenery there must be good for a photography class.

Hi

I think one would like to read interesting similarities mentioned between accounts of lives of Buddha and Jesus . One is given as under by Warren :

“Both are said to have been born of a virgin, and through the holy spirit. (Thomas Maurice, History of Hindostan (London 1798), vol. 2, p. 310; Matthew 1:18.)”

geocities.com/Tokyo/Courtyard/1652/BuddhaChrist.html

I love Buddha and Jesus

Thanks
This Warren quotes a Maurice, published in 1798. Maurice was mistaken, rather led by his bible nose.

Kersey Grave too quotes Maurice.

** There is no ignorance. I have seen the photo of the tomb of Jesus in Sirinagar, Kashmir. Do you know that Siri means scull? That is the place of the scull as you people had the word Golgotha.

Anyhow, Jesus went to Kashmir. The Budhists welcomed him as if their Budha had come back. The old Budha who lived 500 years before Jesus had predicted the coming in the land of a white Masiha (bagwa Mathea). So the Budhists were waiting for the white Masiha and he arrived there in the shape of Jesus. They believed him and the budhists under the influence of Jesus, follwed Jesus in large numbers.

Jesus had married there and had children. He died there at the age of 120 years. (more later)**

To the Original Post…

It is fact that the Pali Canon teaches that The Queen went to sleep and dreamt that a white elephant entered her side and placed the lotus within her, and 10 lunar months later, Siddhartha was born. Its a mystical birth, yes.

I think it just shows the importance of mystical birth in humanity. It doesnt mean the Jesus and Buddha were the same or anything. The Buddha and Jesus taught many of the same things, but they were not the same. They certainly were not teaching the same things, and they were not the same person.

I really admire and like Buddhism. I lived in a Buddhist country for four months, and its certainly not a bad thing. I am not going to be a Buddhist just because I have been exposed to a different “truth” from childhood, but I certainly dont think Buddhists are wrong. I feel like in a part of the world that had no access to Jesus, God still blessed them with a good leader and a good moral code.

Friend,

I understand Jesus as the Son of God, being born of Mary who not only was a virgin before the Birth if jesus, but remained a Virgin, even after the bith of Jesus. I can even explain the hows and whys of this teaching.

My (limited) understanding of Buddhism, is that they do not believe in God as we do. That being the case, was Buddha simply borm from a women who was virgin before conceiving Buddha, or is their a claim that his mother too, remained a virgin, after giving birth?

And just what is your understanding of who and what Jesus are?

Love and prayers my friend.

What evidence is their of this?

It is not unusual for women to have symbolic dreams early in their pregnancies.

The key here is that she dreamed of the elephant which is an animal symbolizing strength and wisdom. It does not mean she was impregnated by some miracle. He was not born of a virgin. The Buddha was conceived in the usual way.

Warren was wrong.

That kind of explanation holds no water, all you have to do is just switch it around and then apply it to Mary then. “Its not unusual for women to have symbolic dreams early in their pregnancies, Mary just dreamt she saw an angel blah blah blah.”

That kind of explanation completely and totally negates the Virgin Birth of Jesus…I really suggest against using this as a viable argument.

I’m not saying that the Buddha was conceived this way, I am just saying, its how it is seen by the Pali canon, and millions of people believe it. I am not trying to suggest its rightness or realness at all. Its just how it is.

There are over twenty gods, entities, and other divine beings (mythological or not) who were born of virgins, many of them older than Jesus Christ. It’s quite the recurring theme in religion, in general.

Isn’t religion awesome?

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood
No, this is false. It’s not a common theme in religion, its a common theme of those who want to discredit Christianity My suggestion is to look to history, namely written records and what each religion actually teaches. I recommend this website: bringyou.to/apologetics/JesusEvidenceCrucifiedSaviors.htm
This states the actual beliefs of these religions and provides a genuine comparison between figures. When a similarity is there, it is conceded. So you can tell its not falsified by that fact.

Regarding Buddha, from my understanding, the claim of a virgin birth is taken from a specific interpretation of the account of his birth. By that I mean there are others. Contrast this to Christ, where there is no question in the Gospels. Mary was a virgin when she had Christ. There is a story in the Buddhist texts that states that on the night of the conception of Siddhartha Gautama, his mother, Maya, had a vision of a divine Bodhisattva on white elephant touching her side. The Buddhist tradition is that the Bodhisattva decided to incarnate himself in Buddha, manifesting on Earth for the last time. Buddhists don’t widely regard this as reason for a virgin birth. Maya is stated to have been married to the King, Śuddhodhana, for many years, so a virgin birth is unlikely. Contrast this to Christ, who was born of a thirteen year old girl who had been raised in the temple as a virgin. Regardless, even if comparison is to be made, there are numerous differences between the two. Saying that Christ’s birth is copied from the account of Buddha without looking at the facts is intellectually dishonest.

This whole “parallel savior” nonsense is highly insulting. Insulting to Christianity, insulting to history, and insulting to the religions that are purposefully distorted to reflect the agenda of the one who is paralleling. So if and when I see it, I’m going to attack it. If you are going to compare religions, do it honestly and correctly.

I completely agree. I find it insulting to Buddhism to make claims for the Buddha that are not in the canon. If I were a Catholic I would find it equally offensive.

Lostandconfused,

You will have to show me in the canon where it says that Siddhattha Gotama was born of a virgin. I don’t know millions of Buddhists, but I was a moderator of one of the largest international Buddhists boards with over 37,000 active members and the only people I have heard say the Buddha was born of a virgin were New Age types trying to say that all religions are the same.

There are many stories called Jataka Tales that are similar to Aesop’s tales, but they are meant as metaphors and are viewed as such. There may be Buddhists who believe these tales just as there are Christians who believe in elves and fairies and the evil eye. People will believe anything, but that does not make it canonical.

If Jesus was indeed buried there as you state, there would be NO doubt that 2.1 billion Christians would flock there, but alas, they don’t!!

Hi

You may visit the place before the word spreads and there is a rush. You would visit a good place and see his tomb. No compulsion however.

Thanks /QUOTE
