I’m not sure where to put this.

First off, I understand the history behind burying a St. Joseph statue to help sell your home and that it is the actual prayers that help.

It just doesn’t see right to bury a saint’s statue (upside down nonetheless) in the flower bed. 😦 It seems a bit superstitious. At first I thought it was an internet gimmick but I saw a display at my local Catholic bookstore.

Can anyone give me any insight/guidance regarding this practice? Does the Church have anything to say about it?

It is total nonsense. It is a superstitious practice and is a grave sin against the First Commandment.

Thanks for the link. To me prayer for intercession is sufficient.

I saw a realtor bury one on a house flipping show. She just shoved the statue in the ground and laughed.

Thanks all I had to do was copy and paste my response. I am seriously scandalized by the fact that our local Catholic Gifts and Book store sell these packages. It is a serious sin to engage in supersticious activity that utilizes anyone, much worst to use St. Joseph, the patron Saint for fathers and husband. I want to scold the owner for it but hold my tongue.

forget burying the statue, simply pray to St. Joseph, the patron of all those trying to establish a household, build, buy or sell a house. He is great. the statue honors him, and is fine, but to show honor it is best to display it, and pray to him to help you take care of your family, as he did for the Holy Family.

I’m too am disturbed that so many Catholic Bookstores sell these home selling kits. It is very misleading.
